Its nobodies word.
Its all based on the fact that the dimensions of the car haven't decreased significantly coupled with the facts that the car has a new IRS that weighs more than a solid rear, and since ford hasnt yet listed any numbers, it automatically means it actually gained weight.

Fail for Ford by default.

I don't think it is a fail for Ford, they are still obviously working out the details on the car and will still be tuning the car up until is released from what I am hearing but I think it will weigh in the same or maybe lose 100lbs.

Sarcasm or disappointment?

Fail by Ford? Hardly.

Here is a great video with the Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=ybUOyjGIUqQ

He talks about the new platform and how it is completely new, and that there isn't anything that was carried over from the S197. He stated that there is nothing in common with the old S197 platform other than the wheelbase. I'm really looking forward to hearing more about the chassis/platform and seeing how much it has evolved and far they went with it.

He also stated that the V8 will definitely be more powerful. I don't know about you guy's but I'm super hyped that the GT is going to have a forged bottom end right off the showroom floor. That's freaking awesome! Slap a supercharger on it and go...No more worries about having about having to to get the bottom end built...well, unless you plan on running some serious boost.

Oh and a little more S550 porn...

Sarcasm or not, I wouldn't consider it a fail if the car handles superbly. That said, I think those who are hoping the GT has lost a couple hundred pounts or more are going to be dissapointed.

There are some magazines saying they feel the GT could have even gained weight...that will surely piss some people off. I don't like it either as I'd love to see these cars get lighter, but I don't see how the GT could have lost much weight without extensive use of more expensive lightweight materials since size is basically the same, and it gained IRS, and a more feature rich interior. I think a modern V8 equipped midsize coupe in the 3,500 to 3,600 lb range is acceptable. Based on what we are seeing from the ATS, I fully expect the next Camaro SS to be between 3,550 and 3,650 lbs. Yes that isn't light, but its a big step forward for Camaro at least. Base models would come in at 3,300 to 3,400 range which is great.

So yes its nobody's "word"....its just the expectation at the moment. Maybe Ford will surprise me.

Sadly it's really all I'm good at. Even then, the good part is highly suspect.

I was being a smart butt above. I like to take the "stereotypical GM fanboy" approach and mix it into my approach.
Many of the guys here are good conversationalists though and I always enjoy hearing perspectives from the other side.

Thats why Ive been spending more and more time here.

The only thing that I really like better about the S550 is the proportions look just right, while the S197 got a bit bulky and porky from certain agains, but as far as exterior lines it doesn't get me any more excited than this:

Yep and a love it, especially when the Fanboys on either side take the bait and don't see the obvious lol

The key to a seriously dieted platform, utilizing all manner of updated materials and technology, is its utilization as more than just an overly large world-wide sporty car. The true savior for the program will be found if/when a RWD-based ATS/3-Series/C-Class/IS 4-dr LINCOLN arrives, sold at higher price points with margins that allow more exotic measures (read: serious diet) that can then trickle down to the more plebeian version(s).

Have we seen the "ultimate" S550 version, cunningly disguised as a Mustang? I suspect not. Will there be synergies from a Lincoln-intended program? Yes, indeedie. And it's an indictment of Ford that something akin an "S550 Lincoln" hasn't been in the market place already. God knows, Lincoln NEEDS such a car!

Norm, my reference to a "Camaro Turbo-4" is a request for the soon-coming 6th-Gen Camaro, NOT the current approaching-extinction Gen-5. Is a Gen-6 Camaro Turbo-4 do-able? Of course it is. In fact it's pretty much already here. It's the Cadillac ATS, offered thusly, with economy AND performance numbers somewhat better than the V6 version.

However, internal rationale will play a hand in how THIS version can/will play out.

And it's THIS S550 that will be my purchase of choice. A sport sedan or 4 door coupe version would/will be great addition to my stable.

He seems confident that the new GT will outrun the 12/13 Boss, what this tells us is in standard GT form this car is going to be a beast. Imagine what the GT350 / Mach1 / or GT500 will bring in the following year. Also the information on the track pack for the Turbo 4 model sounds really interesting.

Gosh! So much Ford LUV here, today. [looks outside] Nope, just one sun, slowly setting in the West, and the hint of one moon, slowly rising in the East, too. Hmmm.

December 11, 2013. A truly remarkable day, here in the HouZe.

East meets West. Grand times!

"Kumbaya, my Lord, Kumbaya"

Actually, chuckles aside (and you ARE all chuckling, right?!), there IS a bond among the "car brethren". Especially when attitudes and egos are checked at the door. Sarcasm, though by some, is best delivered than readily accepted. Speaking of attitudes.

A failing of the 'net, though, is the absence of the "sarcasm dooey", and of course agreement on what "sign" that should be might prove fruitless. In our applications, s/c might get misconstrued as supercharged. And we ALL know who does THAT best. Don't we?
