I understand. I do realize drag racing is way more popular than autocrossing or tracking. But the Camaro is actually better suited for a roadrace car than a drag car.I will tell you drag racing is a hole lot more stressful on the power train that doing a track day. The only exception would be brakes and tires.

We see lots of data on skid pad testing. This is a great test that should not be all inclusive. It is just one of many to test a ride. The real challenge, and we have seen this first hand, some of the articles that have done skid pad testing, have in fact done it on a really poor surface, that is full of loose debri. There is not a standard for all the magazines to do this. I have seen close to a .4g variation from one article to another on the same car. That large amount is not the car, but the track or road surface and driver skill.

With all the hard work guys do to get hps up for hopefully lower ETs, most do not look at the entire picture. I can easily see where a 500rear hp Camaro, when not driven well, may have slower ETs that a stock SS, using the same driver. So much money and emphasis is put into hp, and sometime non of it is put into improving the efficiency of your suspension, that can be updated for a hole lot less money than adding 100hp to the the ground.

but drag racing is fun. You can go to a drag race night and get 4-5 runs. So you are actually running less than 2 minutes. Go to a auto cross that is a 2 minute coarse, and after 2-3 laps, you are tired. Go to a track day and run 5-6 laps, and you have had a full day.

For my background, I enjoy the autocrossing, which the Camaro will do very well up against the Mustangs,

Mike

Oh, I agree with you 100%. I love road racing. The Contiental Grand Am racing series is my favorite racing. Yeah, pedders is in my future. I saw first hand what you guys did for the GTO. Simply awesome!!!

I dont usually drive one of my Chevelles on the street, but I dont have a problem driving any of my other cars on the street. I have two boat races in August 7-8th and 14-15th, and one fastest street car race on September 10-12th. Any weekend other than those dates should be fine.

Your neighbor sounds dumb or must really like the KR hood and rims. He sold his 09 for a 08 KR all when he could of bought a new 2010+ wich is alot better car for way less.

Having a 08 KR could be worth some money in years if the car is kept up.

But performance wise you are right.

I would have done the same thing , those cars were built for one year and one year only , I bet his car is gray with blue stripes? They were built for the 40th yr anniversery of the KR which of course came out in 1968. I am not real sure about the color combo's or numbers produced but I was thinking the numbers were really low , there should be a dash plaque on it stating what production number his car is like #314 0f 2999 , or whatever the numbers are , but either way that is a badass car

I think it was the thought that it was a rare car. I think he said only 1,000 of them were made. My wife and I just have to laugh because the neighbors switch out Fords all the time. They don't hold onto a car for more than a year. We thought they were leasing them but there is no rhyme or reason to when they get a new car. They brought home the beautiful black Mustang convertible and kept it for awhile. Then it was gone and they had an Escape. They already had a Ford truck. Then one weekend the black Mustang is back. Then the Shelby Mustang shows up and they have four vehicles. Now they are back to three but I think they switched out Escapes this weekend because now it is blue instead of light brown.

I appreciate the info.

Looks like the new Mustang can be pretty fat as well, no idea what the driver weighs but here is a 2011 real world that ran 12.8`s stock w/ a raceweight of 3997....Thats right 4000 lbs w/ the driver and no weight reduction, it is a stick car as well.

Here`s the info:

my baseline runs
Well i haven't had time to really cool the car down yet but so far 3 back to back 12.8's @ 110

Best 60 ft i could get was a 2.03 and i took the car over to the scales and race weight was 3997!!! What a heavy turd...LOL

I had a chance to put Jay Tuckers prototype cold air on it for the next to the last pass. It went 12.7 @ 111 so it was an honest tenth and 1 mph. I left it on on the way home and the car picked up about 1.5-2mpg as well. Another QUALITY JLT product.

Now its time to get busy with the mods. I will not be gutting this car so i will just have to see what the heavy bitch will do

Thanks
Sean

So what did we learn? Most stangs are closer to the Camaro in weight fully optioned out, this one w/ him in it actually weighed as much as my 2ss auto w/ me in it, but I`m probably lighter than him at 160lbs. We also learned that the weight is already factored into these 12 second time slips for the stang, so the other 12 second passes really weren`t all about a lightweight optioned car, this one is a piggy. The guy is a great driver and has been drag racing for a while but he ran it on a hot humid evening very recently and ran 12.8 stock... Come fall they could drop quickly.. At least it looks like we can boost more stock internal than them at this point.... Hurry up and ship Whipple, I need my blower!!!
