I think that may be true. Those were all on the Global Gamma architecture. The latest updates of those vehicles were more extensive than originally believed so maybe they are on VSS-F. But then again they are priced so low that it’s hard to conceive that it’s new architecture. I’ll have to check with the vehicle forecasters for sure. But the vehicles that were supposed to migrate to VSS-R were Camaro, CT4, CT5, CT6, CT7, and an unnamed vehicle on another brand. Clearly none of that is going to happen.

Why this thread title is just a pipe dream….

General Motors (GM) shares surged 9.8% following the carmaker's third-quarter earnings report. GM exceeded sales and profit estimates, highlighting successful cost discipline and capital efficiency, increased profitability from electric vehicles (EVs) and redesigned sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and strength in China.

As much as this forum despises Mary Barra for decisions made on one product line (maybe two), that’s how much Wall Street investors and stockholders love her. She’s here for the long haul.

A week ago GM was trading at $48.49. After yesterday’s earnings report it closed at $53.61 and opened today at $54.06. Retirees are smiling too.

I had forgotten about your question. Confirmed that we do have Trailblazer, Trax, Envista, Encore, and Envision on VSS-F platform. As well as a number of Chinese market Buick nameplates.

All I know is, GM is very competitive with the trucks, and IMO they are doing great things with the large passenger truck and SUV lines. Their regular cars (what's left of them) need work.

I stopped by the local GM dealership last night and they had a bunch of 4cyl 1/2 ton trucks for more than $50K each. They'd be OK with an LS swap!

No way I'd buy that junk!

I sympathize with them in that they need to have models that are fuel efficient; Thus the smaller motors. In reality some of their smaller motors are quite good, such as their 4 cyl. turbos. However, with a pickup its a natural to have one with a v8. IMO there is nothing that can take the place of the feel of a potent v8 with a big body car or truck. It is really a good time for GM with their large truck and SUV lines. However, I implore them not to get too drunk on the profits. GM needs a well-rounded array of vehicles to stay competitive in the business. They should not ignore the car and sedan lines that they once excelled in.

Nobody cares though. Financial success used to be a valid proxy for actual value generation, but that correlation is all but severed, so GM's ability to turn a profit, while very nice (for them), says nothing about the things that matter to many enthusiasts.

On a much brighter note, however, I hope you enjoy your active / retired life Oh, and wifey and I just went to Bowling Green and (true story) saw 5x more Camaros than Corvettes outside the NCM, 15 vs 3 in a few days, with a nice HBM ZL1 parking smack in front of the museum entrance Finally, I also noticed that Tadge Juechter was added to their hall of fame as the only inductee this year so far.

The business end of the truth stick is if Mary B. were to be removed or replaced the new pres would probably be of similar mindset. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Meanwhile I'm EXTREMELY happy with my '15 Camaros and have no desire to replace them anytime soon.

Good to hear for Tadge. He certainly deserved it. I think he has had the most overall impact on Corvette of any of the chiefs.

Very true that ability to turn a profit means nothing in an enthusiast world. The issue is the reverse is also true and that’s why GM behaves as it does. There are still enough car guys at the core of the company though that will keep things interesting. CT5 Blackwing, Z06 and ZR1 are insane and they would not have happened if not for the Mark Reuss / Tadge Juechter / Tony Roma type guys in Product Development.

What is really frustrating is you can still buy a plane jane Ford 1/2 ton with a V8 for less than a Chevy which ONLY comes with a 2.7L 4 cyl. GM has become an exercise in pure lunacy!

I kind of feel the same. Chevy has to be careful in not making their last group of faithful customers mad at them. I believe that is part of the reason why the passenger trucks are still large and loud! I love it; The v8 pickup should always be around in some format.

GM did just re-engineer the small block V8, so it's very likely. The main purpose of the re-engineering was to address 2027 emissions requirements for commercial vehicles (2500 series and up) but there's no reason those engines couldn't be used in the 1500 series trucks.

Maybe it's a location thing. GM does try to distribute product based on what sells in an area. In Metro Detroit there is no shortage of Silverados under $50k with 5.3L and under $60k with 6.2L. Pretty much on par with pricing for F150 in the area.

Rumor is next gen trucks on T1-2 (basically a warmed over revision of existing platform), gen 6 V8, plug-in hybrid option. Hearing that as well Martin?
