The thread about the M3 guys showing respect to the 5.0 links to a Leftlane News article claiming that the 2011 Mustang GT with Track Pack was dead even around the track in Michigan with a new M3 despite having a 200 pound weight disadvantage.

How much does a new M3 weigh and how much then does a 200 pound heavier 2011 mustang weigh?

M3 - 3500+-lbs

GT w/ Track pack (heavier brakes, beefier suspension, etc..) 3700+-lbs?

That 200-300 lbs is just enough to make a difference, that's basically the difference between the Challenger SRT8 and Camaro SS. However, I've also heard that it takes 10 HP to make up a hundred pounds difference. So, this is going to be the biggest drivers race we've seen thus far.

Two things.

1. 200-300lbs is a big difference... esp when the Mustang has better gears.

2. Keep in mind that is with the track pack... which (after hearing about what it did with the M3) will be more than enough to be best in class. So it will have a slight straight line adv. with a large twisty adv.

The Camaros engine bay looks just as good IMO. I like that the engine is covered, it looks clean.

I would much rather pop my hood and see that.

Its going to be interesting with this new 5.0, the 4.6 doesn't make all that much more power with bolt-ons. Thats why everyone supercharges them. I have a feeling the 5.0 making 412 hp isn't going to leave much more on the table in terms of bolt on HP.

Yea, the pony is a nice car. It has some nice sexy lines and attitude. Like our Camaros you have to add a couple of bucks to make it sound musclely and give it a kick. My hats off to Ford there exhaust sounds great. Nice car for the money. My two cents.

I am just not a fan of the plastic covers on any performance car, once removed revealing an even worse looking plastic intake and random wiring harnesses. The SRT8 guys got it right with no cover and a proper solid aluminum intake......

Look at all the plastic in here lol

No one can argue with the performance, but i'd personally like to see something a bit more 'raw'

The 2011 Mustang GT manifold cover is pretty minimalist as covers go. And if you take it off what you'll be left with will look a lot like the SRT8 setup. In fact, I'm not entirely sure why Ford went with a cover at all here. Still, I think the Mustang GT engine bay looks pretty good with or without the cover so it's a wash for me.

Awesome. As a GM guy, I am happy as can be with the new updates to the mustang drivetrain. Its a great thing for car junkies like me in general since it makes everybody up their game.
