If anyone has to cancel their trip, I’d like dibs on your hotel reservation please. Right now we’re staying at the Holiday Inn Express 2 1/2 miles down the road.

Why book down the street when you could be basically in the same parking lot with one of the other 2 hotels.

Holiday Inn has a waiting list going. And I'm sure some will open up as we get closer. Might as well get on that list since I don't think they will do a one for one swap.

Because, at least I have a room somewhere nearby if I can’t get one on site.

My point is you CAN get one on site. Hilton and Marriott are same parking lot and have rooms available. The party will be at the convention center.

I think it depends on how the hotel rooms are booked, we are on the Holiday Inn waiting list and I paid extra at the Hilton to get a cancellation policy so if we get to move to the holiday Inn I get my money back from the Hilton. I can cancel up to a week before check-in.

That is true... we had open rooms that didn't even get booked up on the last two days. There is a no cancel clause when inside of two weeks so that's the time we should see the wait list get smaller.

I just called and got on the Holiday Inn waitlist.....I'm #9
I've never been in this situation before, how are other people treating it? Should I hold out until the last minute and risk higher rates or having to be a few miles away again? Is there any reason not to get on all the waitlists?
Any advice is appreciated!

If your #9 that's pretty good, we are #3 but we have a room at the Hilton just in case. Closer you can be to the Holiday Inn the better.
