Oh and something about the BMW interiors does look dated, big time.

+1 for the anti-nav crowd!

GM definately has been making nicer and nicer interiors. Ford interiors are getting better as well, the new Mustang a F150 look very nice. Dodge interiors are just shit like they've always been. Japanese interiors are getting stranger and stranger though and are definately not as high quality as people make them out to be (with some expections). The Accord interior looks good and the seats are nice, but it feels super cheap to me (like Cobalt cheap) and all the buttons are backwards. The minivans and CRV interiors are horrible, especially with the car style center console shifter stuck somewhere in the middle of the dash instead of a column shifter that flows. Anything without an arm rest is stupid. German interiors are nice, but BMW's dash and gauges look ancient. Mercedes has good interiors, I'm not much of a fan of the new C class though. I like my C55's interior much better. I think my Trailblazer has a good interior, especially for a 2002 and compared to all other trucks available at that time.

Except they still put those stupid ugly dangerous distracting computer screens in the dash.

That should be illegal like it was years ago.

Uhh, you do realize that most of the functions are disabled while driving? The only functions available while driving are the same functions available on any regular radio. And it is MUCH less dangerous than people texting while driving or eating and putting on makup. Get over it, if you don't want a nav radio in your car, then DON'T BUY ONE!

I can't help but smile everytime I look into a modern (2006+) GM vehicle...never fails...I'm always impressed.

(Even the Cobalt...materials may be "less than desirable"...but layout is simple and genius)

Actually, I think the Malibu/Aura have the best interiors in their cheap midsize class. I also think the escalade and the CTS have great interiors, along with the new SRX, and the Enclave and Lacrosse are also competitive with their class. I think the rest of GM is lacking though.
As for best interiors overall, even though I don't really like Lexus, I think Lexus takes the win. They may not make cars that are fun to drive, but they do have nice interiors in terms of materials and build.

GM really does make some phenomenal interiors. They've given the design team lots of room to play, and they've done a great job.

So since when was replacing a distraction with another distraction an acceptable practice?

It's a new form of User Interface. That's all. Pretty soon, all cars will have them (even the Cruze comes standard), and in time, everything will be Volt-like...or Centennial Corvette (one giant touch-screen). It's no more a distraction than having a gagillion buttons under the skinny radio screen.

So is this your idea of a non-distracting interior?

Are you daft? No one said it is. No one sits there looking at the nav screen the entire time they're driving.

My favorite Interiors are from Ford and GM. However I get the feeling that most interiors come from Gm Chinese models, as well as some exteriors that are just changed slightly. Maybe its the other way around though. Hondus and Toyotas have some of the ugliest interiors Ive ever seen.

New SRX!

Though that's a prepro photo. The production ones have numbers in the MPG area on the dash.
