I think that GM will wait and see how the market responds to the Hellcat Charger, if Dodge is selling 3-4k Chargers and 3-4k Challengers GM may change their tune of Camaro and SS and not giving them the better Vette engine.
Only question would be could GM hit the price point with the SS. |

The Viper may be equal in the 1/4 but it is much faster on a twisty track and has a higher official top speed of 206. Dodge fans need top stop comparing the Hellcat twins to the new Z06. That is a fight they should not pick. That being said when compared to vehicles in their own class, ZL1 and CTS/SS then the fight is fair. Do not forget it was us GM fans who were crowing in the ZL1 vs SRT 392 comparison even tho the ZL1 was $10,000 more because the 392 was "Dodges top dog like the ZL1". The tables have turned and Dodge is on the rise and winning. We cannot hang out hats on magnetic ride suspension, it is nice but expensive and in the real world, day to day life the SRT 3 mode suspension is just as nice. |

SRT Challenger vs ZL1 SRT Charger vs SS The Viper is dead. The TA is fast for a bone stock car and slightly quicker than the outgoing ZR1 so for now it is king. The Challenger is quicker in the 1/4 but nothing indicates it can go around corners. The Charger vs SS IMO is the real muscle car battle. But at the end of the day - the SRT cars ECU/PCM etc will be locked. Mopar will provide no assistance and the top executives will spew bull shit about EPA and legality etc. GM and Ford pretty much whore out their new performance stuff so that consumers can make the car "theirs" so to speak. A stock performance car is only fun for so long. Now unless SRT learned a lesson with the Viper - i fully expect these Hellcats to be locked down. The aftermarket making it a labor of love to hack into them so they can be tuned. All the while the new Camaros and Caddy Vs and even the Z06s will be out on the road with all sorts of tuners and parts to make not only 708hp but 800hp, 900hp, 1000hp etc. I love me some of this new Dodge/SRT stuff. Id easily take a Viper over the new Z06 if the aftermarket parts selection were equal. But they are not. And SRT/Dodge seem to be just fine by that. Maybe I can convince my wife to buy a Charger Hellcat for her daily driver. But for a performance enthusiast - its nice but kind of pointless if you want more. |

1) Bang a drum that's been silent a very long time, and 2) $ave Dodge from $pending money on advertising, trying to squire away interest to your camp, all in an attempt to make this model, to be sold in meagre numbers as promoted, a "profitable" addition to dodge's fine tradition of QUALITY, INDUSTRY-LEADING CARS AND TRUCKS. Good Luck with that... |

That's why I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on one a few weeks back. While I really like the interior, how well it drove and the performance of the drivetrain, I still can't get past the very tame looks. It's not as bad in person, but my wife put it best in saying that it looks like a car that a pap would drive.
I tend to agree. |
