I still don't understand what's so wrong about this model that you feel the need for a 6th gen already. The current car needs some massaging, but that's about it.
I don't see anything "wrong" with the 5th gen. Just wondered if GM would be able to get the 6th gen out in time with the next gen Mustang (2014). GM did do it before...they got the second gen out by 1970, so I don't know why you are saying "they couldn't do it before"????

Here's where the mis-communication is coming from, I think.

One, I think the idea of a whole new generation so early is ludicrous...regardless of what rumors have a Mustang revamped in 2014 (which if, true, will have given it 9 years as a generation). So this whole thing is a non-issue to me. But that's my opinion only.

Second, I don't know what you expect when you say "new generation". Design, powertrain, chassis, what? Because I based my comment on the assumption that you want to see a ground-up revamp (which the 1st-to-2nd gen was not)...my mistake if that's not true.

GM outta be on it already...the process takes years to bring a new product to market. Yes, the current Mustang will run 10 years by the time its 2014 replacement arrives. That is because GM ceased producing Camaros for the past 7 years. Here is a good link about the 1970 Camaro. It was an all-new Camaro. http://www.nastyZ28.com/camaro70.php

link doesn't work (and I think I'm a little off on re: 1969 > 1970 changes) so I'll give ya that. ...but I'm still confused...how does not producing a car for 7 years make them liable for introducing one and then replacing it 3 years later? And what do you really expect to change?

I referenced the length of the current Mustang production e.g. if the 5th gen Camaro had been released for 2003 (no break in the Camaro lineage) then it would be nearing the end of it's cycle now as well. So, of course, the Mustang is at the end of it's cycle and due for redesign. Coming out with a 6th gen Camaro by Spring of 2013 would not only keep up with Ford, but keep Camaro enthusiasts buying and bring in even more new buyers.

Ah. Okay...all up to speed. imo, I think that 7 year hiatus leaves the car subject to "lateness" until the 7th gen. I just think it's far too soon to do a complete redesign...a refresh, like the 2009 > 2010 'stang however, I can see, and would welcome.

Let's all just hope the Camaro continues to prosper.
Remember the current mustang, if redone in 2014, will have run 9 years. 2014 will only be the 5th year of CamaroGen5. Theyll probably do what they usually do. Stick a new front end on the car, and maybe change the taillights. If they can find anyway at all to lighten the chassis, that's where i'd like to see development dollars spent.

5-passenger crossover coming to Buick in 2011. Supposedly looks like a "baby Enclave."

Well, hopefully they can tastefully shrink it down, unlike Dodge's Charger Jr (aka Avenger)
