Noone answered my question. Does Windows 7 have DirectX 10 and 64bit? I would assume so.

I'm building a budget gaming pc. I was going to buy vista, but I may just install beta until 7 releases.

So far I have...
-Antec 300 case
-antec 650w ps
-intel dX38bt mobo

plan on buying
-8gb ddr2 1066 dominator
-300 velociraptor hdd
-intel e8500 cpu
-ati hd4890
-windows vista or 7

I was going to check my 7 machines but forgot to check the version of DirectX. Google shows it ships with DirectX 11.

Yes, Win7 works great in 64bit. Vista was solid for 64bit as well. Most of the problems in the past was lack of driver support. That's really not a problem anymore as the hardware companies are finally taking 64bit seriously.

And yea, I would just grab the RC in the mean time. No point in buying Vista now.

With my list above. Do you have any alterative suggestions? I feel like I'm getting the best bang for the buck. I dont need to run Crysis on MAX settings but I want to play all new games at a decent resolution.

I don't play PC games and don't follow the hardware as much as I used to so I really don't know what the latest and greatest is.

But those terabyte drives aren't 10k RPM. I'm just waiting til they start selling 15krpm drives to consumers. They've had em in servers for years now.

That's what I'm talking about, I'm waiting out as well.

But is the extra rpms worth that much more? I have considered that drive as well, but i have not been able to pull myself together to purchase it. Usually what I do when I can't make a decision on technology, i just wait a few months and something twice as fast would come out, then I'm happy. But rpms has taken longer than I expected...I have been waiting a while..

Ya, I want the 10k rpm. Ive never seen one, but apparently they are alot faster than 7200. I might get a 1tb slower drive for storeage and the Velociraptor for Windows and games.

has anyone tried installing the RC on a SSD drive (single or RAID config) yet? i recall reading somewhere that Windows 7 should better support SSD performance.
