SOOOOO.....
Im voting for Luck, hes taken a much worse team and is actually winning with it, RG3 has a better defense to help him when he comes up short.... I think RG3 has a great ability to read defenses, but I think Luck is better at it, plus RG3 is a little too run happy, there have been mul;tiple times when he might of made great plays to open recievers but instead decided to hoof it..... Foir every great run, there are 3 that didnt go anywhere or lost yardage....they just get forgotten in the cheering for that 1 good one. So all things being close, Im choosing Luck at this time...things can and usually do change this early in the year. |

Well, right now I'd say RG3 is well on his way to earning ROY for this year. Luck has done OK. I haven't really seen any other offensive player make an impact like these two. On defense, there is Chandler Jones of the Patriots, however I would say that RG3 has had more of an impact so far.
Though I'd love to say Russell Wilson would be on this list too...it's not going to happen, nor is he ROY...unless he breaks out through the rest of the year (something he is capable of). I seriously don't understand this hatred of Cam though about his rookie year. He had an amazing year, and deserved the award. You can't argue with performance, and Cam & RG3 have BOTH outperformed anyone else so far in their rookie years. 2nd year and/or college doesn't matter. The award is ROY, which is what this post was about. If you want to argue whether he can maintain that pace...that's another story. But I don't really understand all this butthurt about him getting ROY.

Passing stats: Luck - 1971yds, 55.6%, 8td, 8int, 74.6 rating. RGIII - 1778yds, 66.8%, 8td, 3int, 97.3 rating. Rushing stats: Luck - 143yds, 3td, 5.5ypc RGIII - 476yds, 6td, 6.8ypc RGIII's passing stats kill Luck's, it's not even close. His rushing stats do too. As for all his negative rushing plays, his ypc is still much better. RGIII's total production is much higher than Luck's. RGIII has the better defense? Indy has the #22 ranked scoring defense and #19 total defense. The Redskins are #28 and #29. I like Luck a lot but he's not playing better than RGIII in any capacity.

Ok its been 3 weeks let's look at where they stand now.
Passing stats: RGIII - 2193yds, 67%, 12td, 3int, 101 rating Luck - 2965yds, 57%, 12td, 12int, 77 rating Rushing stats: RGIII - 613yds, 6td Luck - 163yds, 5td Again it's really not close. Indy has a 2 game better record but that's obviously more a product of the team and not the individual.

RG3 has put up impressive numbers this year, however...
I still think Russell Wilson has had more of an impact this year as a rookie to the Seahawks WINNING games than RG3 has had this year on his teams LOSING seasons. Wilson's numbers are actually a better and more consistent QB rating vs Luck. But, in today's league of fantasy stats, that's what many people look at instead of impact to the team. Let's wait until the end of the year to see which rookies truly do have the most impact for their team.

Luck's offense is 100 times more complicated than RG3 or Russel Wilson, both of them have vanilla play option with no more than two recievers down field at any time on avg
Both RG3 and Russel have teams with great defense and actually have a running game, in the case of Russel, and amazing running back. Luck has neither of those. Luck has broken more records as a rookie than the other two, hes had to play and win against harder teams, and he has lead his team to the playoffs without stumbling. Washington has to luck into getting there with an abysmal record, and without Lynch and that defense Seattle wouldn't even see the playoff light from the tunnel of loserville they would be in. Luck is all Indy has really, they have an avg defense at best, the receiving core is mediocre, they don't have a running game and the head coach has been sick and unproductive for most of the season.... Hes thrown for over 4k yards , again with mediocre receivers, when Stafford broke 4k last year people went nuts and hes got calvin to throw to. RG3 is flashy, but in the end, Luck has been the better QB and the better Rookie. oh and the QB rating system is garbage, never ever judge QB's of that, it just shows ignorance, when a QB on a team that has only won 3 games all year has the third highest QB rating, you know that stat is useless.... |
