I am not brand loyal! I seem to drive Ford's as my DD, and GM's seem to be my weekend cars. I think I am American brand loyal. :flag2:

It always amuses me when certain types of people like to shut down conversations that are "on topic" and non-offensive. IMO - being unable to "handle" conversation topics that are contrary to one's preferences shows narrow-mindedness.

A forum is for open discussion - if you don't want to be "open", don't participate and move onto another thread.

Hey, some of us think this is a pointless thread. If someone does not agree with you, it does not make them narrow minded. Maybe, if you don't like the criticism, you should not start your controversial threads.

The only people that exclusively work for a "brand" within GM are either in Marketing, or involved with the dealers in some way (sales, service, etc...).

Today many "corporate parts" are used in every vehicle. The only thing brand-exclusive is styling and marketing. Nothing more. So don't take offense that people are "disrespecting the brand." Cuz it's just a concept / marketing tool. In reality, its all the same people working in the background.
Logic is unwelcome here and should not be tolerated in a thread such as this!

what is pointless is responding to a thread stating you think it is pointless. Nevertheless I would not object to you stating an opinion that tries to minimize the value of a discussion; I object to people trying to ban or close a discussion. People who minimize discussions that they think are "pointless" are one step above people who can't handle certain discussions altogether.

Well, good, I can handle the discussion and never advocate shutting anything down. However, when I see something with a title of "Do you HATE Chevrolet" that is nothing more than a title to STIR things up and I'm gonna voice my opinion about it.

Maybe I should have clarified myself when I said "I know the history of the GM - Chevy" relationship. I get it. GM runs Chevy. Chevy uses GM parts, design and engineering. However I think that pretty much sums up most conglomerates and subsidiary relationships.

For example, the Audi TT is based off the Volkswagon Beetle platform. Lamborghini benefits from a lot of the electronics from VW. For example - the Nav systems are all VW technology.

But so what? So what if in the past, GM used to control everything? The point is - the car is a CHEVROLET, and Chevrolet has a brand manager. Maybe sometimes it does make sense to refer to GM corporate decisions, but 100% of the time? You mean "Chevrolet" doesn't get a mention at least 50% of the time?

That's what I don't get: why does "Chevrolet" get ignored near 100% of the time. I would expect no more than 50% of the time.

I also don't buy the laziness excuse. "Chevy is too hard to write. GM is much much easier". Really? Geez - I wonder what "Ford" fans have to say about that - they have to type a whole 2 letters more when they talk about their brand. I guess we would also have to pity "Lamborghini" owners or "Koenigsegg" owners too. Or maybe we just have to pity "GM" owners for being challenged in some way.

It's a hyperbolic headline. I could have easily said "why don't people have any LOVE for the "Chevrolet" brand enough to use it" - but you can see that isn't much of a headline.

I see the VW conglomerate as more of the GM-Holden relationship. GM owns Holden, but Holden is more or less allowed to operate independently. Hell, they more or less had the Zeta platform all to themselves before GM used it for the Camaro. They also just redid their Cruze to match the new Series II VE Commodore's styling, and they had a large amount of input on the Cruze hatchback.

In North America, on the other hand, Chevrolet, Buick-GMC, and Cadillac are just brands that General Motors sells vehicles under. An engineer may work on a Chevrolet one year and then start working on a Buick the next.

Do not love nor hate Chevrolet. Why limit yourself to a brand when just about every maker has something great to offer.

I always just say GM. Thats what a chevy is. The ONLY time i say the word "chevy" is if i say I am going to the "chevy" dealer to look at cars. You dont say "i'm going to the GM dealership."

Besides, by saying "GM", you are putting more responsibility behind your car. You are holding the entire corporation accountable.

It's called "The GM LS engine family". GM performance parts.

Interestingly if you look up a "HEMI" engine, it is called a Chrysler hemi engine and it's called a Dodge Hemi engine.
