I'd say it's plenty okay to get excited over any car.
Heck, I was excited when I got my Cobalt. Granted...that was moving up from a crappy old minivan...but still!! ![]() Given that this is a sub-6 second 0-60 car...quarter in the low 14s to high 13s (a total guess)...this isn't a slouch by any means. It has the same suspension-tuning level as the G8 GT for goodness sakes, and it's one hot ride no matter what the powertrain. What's not to get excited about? It's the old stigma attached to the V8, I think...any less cylinders has to be inferior. That's just not the case anymore. ![]() In my case, I have two choices; get a 1SS, or a 2LT. If I get the SS, I'm going to be stretching it. $3 grand more right off the bat, mileage isn't great (for a V8 it is...but c'mon, 23mpg??), and insurance for me is roughly double that over the V6. I can't handle that comfortably, and 2 extra cylinders isn't important enough to break myself over it. So, I'm getting a 2LT. Should I not be excited at getting IRS, a 6-speed, 300+hp, and all the goodies the car has to offer? ![]() Plus...I have a plan in mind that'll turn my "lil old V6" into a monster of a performance car. More on that in a few years.......

I would of loved to get a GT when I got my car... but I got a V6 stang for my 16th birthday. Most 16 yr olds can't say they got a brand new 22K car for their b-days, so I was pretty happy and I wasn't going to demand a GT from my parents (not to mention they also bought me $2500 wheels and tires)

Times change. You no longer need a huge engine just so the car can get out of its own way. You don't even need FI to make smaller engines powerful, but that is certainly one good way of doing things. Technological progress means we can do more with less.
There is nothing wrong with a V6 pony car. Most pony cars are V6s. Always has been that way and always will. No one said it had to be a muscle car (which I agree means it has a V8). Just because it isn't a V8 muscle car doesn't mean it isn't exciting. A very nicely equipped V6 Camaro can be had for $26,000. For that price you can get any number of hot hatches and sport compacts like the Mazdaspeed3 (excellent car) WRX, Ralliart, Cobalt SS, Civic SI, etc. All are great performers and genuinely fun to drive. This past week I rode along in my brother-in-law's SI. Its NA high strung 4 banger is as anti-muscle as it gets, but it was still a fun ride. Of course the SS is better than the V6. Of course it is more exciting. But until now, the 6 cyl pony cars were not very exciting, nor did they perform well. This is a V6 powered sport coupe that will be genuinely fun to blast down a mountain road in for not very much cash at all. It is certainly a fine alternative to the sport compacts and hot hatches you'd otherwise be limited to for that money. By the way, the supercharged V8 motivated Shelby GT500 was completely laid to waste by an STI in an Edmunds head to head comparison. All the big cube FI muscle in the world won't help a bit if the rest of the car isn't done right. Times change and it takes more than just simply 8 cylinders to be good now.

Well I've just driven 5500 miles on Number 3 equipped with a V6 Manual. It pulls very nice through all the gears. Even in 6th on the e-way, it pulls pretty good when the right foot goes down. 300 hp is 300 hp after all. If you option up and get the RS package or 2LT, I think you'll have a wonderful car. HOWEVER, if having the rear wheels spinning through 2nd gear til you grab third is important to you, the SIX won't cut it. If you want a great car that's a blast to drive and reasonably economical the six is more than fine, but if you will be trolling for Mustangs and Challengers.........

People usually get excited when buying any new car. Buying a really cool looking car like a Challenger or Camaro or Mustang is more than okay, even if its the V6 model. Heck, the V6 models of all of these cars look almost exactly like the V8 models, so the cool factor is definitely there.

"I raced a 2002 Camaro SS today in my 2007 V6 Mustang. I was actually surprised he didn't beat me by more. We were neck and neck until he went into second. I really thought he would kill me off the line. We did about 1/8 mile and he had me by 2 or 3 car lengths." That V6 Mustang owner was bragging about how he stayed fairly close to the Camaro SS, and other posters congratulated him for his efforts. I'm sure somewhere the Camaro owner was also bragging about how he blew away a Mustang (and assumed it was a GT, or at least told people that it was). The V6 Camaro is going to be a great car. But if you buy the V6, please don't race Mustang GTs with it. We don't need Mustang GT owners relating how they raced and destroyed the new Camaros. |

braggin about how he stayed with a camaro that more than likely feathered it off the line, then hit second and left the kid. if you are going to race, keep it to the track. there will be V-6 camaros out there that will beat GT's, I guarantee it. but it will be more of a driver thing when they do win.
