256GB Corsair SSD in mine - it makes a HUGE difference as far as speed.

I bought and played Mafia II last week on my PC, and the load times were so fast at times I didn't even have time to read the text that displays while loading (1-5 seconds)

The new Corsair's have the best controller to date. Spanks even the Intel one which used to be top dawg forever.

I would buy an i7 barebone system add windows 7 x64 and be done with it. Salvage your Video card and what ever else you can and upgrade those at a later time. Never upgrade and OS just format and start from scratch. Vista is the ME of windows.... ICK

Correct never defrag there is no reason. Also, W7 optimizes your SSD so it should turn off everything you had to manually do in XP and Vista (ick). The new Sandstorm controller for SSD's are showing some great performance. I use an SSD in my laptop and finally upgrade my desktop. Moved my vital data over to a raid 5 array. Problem still is price but it is one of the best bangs for your buck period. Random comment – anything over 6Gigs of ram can actually slow your system down.

Hey all.. Not a Camaro Owner.. (would love to be) Actually talked SF03 into buying one

I have read this thread and thought I may help out a little bit.

1st nobody has asked what your memory configuration is. 2x2gb + 2X.5gb ...

If you in fact have an ODD number of memory chips in the computer you will be forcing the mobo into single channel mode. This is crippling to AMD machines. If you have an odd number of chips it may be surprising the amount of speed you get from removing a single chip. You want the Pairs to be in the system. such as 2x2gb + 2x2gb. The new chip + dual channel memory setup will likely be enough to get you by.

By the way Superfly03 or SF03 as we call him on xcpus.com knows what he is talking about. He gave great info.

I am a certified card carrying geek who tunes his own vehicles too. I tuned my own Silverado VMAX and got better 0 - 60 and better MPG by 1.2MPG. The 4 second delay on tip in to the PE table is gone as well.

Cheers all. Just chiming in to help if I can.

Just offer advice and move on. That's all I'm saying.
You decided to come in here and immediately try and get cross threaded with me, I addressed the OP and tried to help him. I will move on when I want to, and I will need nor take any ushering from any child with under developed social skills! He is not looking for just a performance bump. He wants to run Lightroom which is very processor dependent, and running anything else but light room on a single core processor will put needless burden on his processor..

PS. With your self proclaimed experience and knowledge you should have half a clue that no one in his right mind in this day and age with any knowledge of computers would come into a forum and try to show off a PC that is clearly air cooled with a single video card.

You have been building Rigs for a Decade since way back in the stone age of the year 2000 and Windows 98 ROFLMAO?.. I have socks older than you and a an original copy of Diablo with more time in a computer than you have.

He may know what he is talking about but he went the wrong way about showing it. There was absolutely no reason for him to address me at all much less the way he did.

And judging by his Sig he is a self proclaimed Thread Jacker... Which isn my book pretty much just makes him an ass.

x626xblack.. Just so you know.. Who ever sold you that PC did NOT put in an Asus P6T mobo. The mobo pictured is an EVGA X58.

I would be upset if I were you. The Asus P6T version 1 is a very good mobo. I know cause I ACTUALLY have it.

Notice in this pic that the black riser in the middle of the board is NOT there.

And yes I am epeening.. I have to in this case becuase I have no Camaro :(

Please see this pic:

http://www.evga.com/articles/00438/p...ayout_main.asp

You will notice the Black HS Riser that says EVGA on it.

Hope that helps!

Yes you are right Chess LOL.. I have a web site and have a thread for rigs.. I forgot my OP has the wrong MoBo listed. My original reply stated the "down and dirty" because I was at work and was trying to reply quickly to finish some work before i started my Vacation.. So I copied and pasted it... Presently both the sound card and network card are sitting on my desk because of issues with the sound card and 64 bit os... Creative never released drivers that worked well in Vista 64 bit.. I have have to with Win7 drivers... if I ever get off my lazy a$$ lol..it also still shows Vista.. While I am running Win 7.

For the record I absolutely hate that X58.... have had issues with memory speed not running correctly, when set to 1800 my OS would freeze at splash.. and sound issues.. I get crackle... I just have not had time to change her out.... I do have the two raptors.. You will also notice the x2 by my video cards and I clearly only have one... I never got around to getting to the second one.... Due to the fact i was not trying to flex an EPien with a two year old air cooled, non overclocked, single video card computer.. didnt think i needed to clarify all the discrepancies..

They aren't under developed... I'm just blunt.

He asked what he could do to upgrade his PC. That's all.

Then why did you post it? What is the point of posting something like that if you aren't showing it off? You basically said "Hey look at me, this is mine!"

I was also about 14 when I started...

Point is, I've been doing this a long while and I am good at it. I'm also good at cost benefit. So instead of addressing the points you fly off the handle onto some off the cuff insults. Pardon me but I'm the kid?

wooooooooooo... hi tech... Hi Tech... HI TECH!!... floppy drive?

is that so you can still run your 1995 flight simulator or something?

my computer is very similar to the OP's... only it's 3 years old, has 3GB RAM, and has a 2.40GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processor. it started running a bit slow, and the processor fan started kicking on... and working really hard. so i just popped the puppy open, grabbed the vacuum and a can of compressed air and cleaned it up! runs like new. heat kills electronics. i recommend a good clean up to the OP while you're tearing the guts out.

i think the OP is on the right track for the minimal amount of money invested. don't even worry about upgrading your operating system, until it's time to throw your computer in the trash.
