I got instruction and trigger time from a four tour Ranger on the AR this weekend. Dayum was that a lot of fun. Methinks I need one before the asswipes like Ohblowme make it difficult. Which makes/model do ya'll recommend?

There are so many options. How much do you want to spend? Was it a free float rail? You can find Colt rifles now without stocks or forend (handguards) on them for around $700 because most people change those immediately anyway.

You can also build one from the ground up to your liking. I have a Spikes Tactical I built, a Rock River Operator II, Home built 300 blackout, and a home built AR with parts from various manufacturers.

My spikes shoots great. But it is all in what you want to do with it and what quality of parts you want. For example, doing a mil-spec build is pretty easy and is on par with military options (hence milspec). You can also build those above or below those values.

MilSpec is just a measurement for accuracy, durability, ease of use and interchangeability for various components and tolerances for testing. Just at a very basic level. There is much more to it, but a high level.

Milspec is plenty good. My Spikes is MilSpec on all parts and shoots great. I have about $1400 in it though or maybe $1600. But some of this was due to the panic pricing post Sandy Hook. Prices have normalized somewhat, or until talks of bans, or restrictions come up, then they go up again...

Easily doable!

Look at Wyndham Weaponry. They used to be former Bushmaster people. DPMS is not bad either. Smith and Wesson M&P Tactical is very nice for the $. My dad has one that shoots really well.

For optics are thinking scope, or reddot? Look at Primary Arms website. Good people, fast shipping, great service.
