Maybe for the road course guys but for me there is ALOT to love about this car. Launch control with programmable shift points = bracket racers dream. Slap some DRs and I can run 2 of the slower bracket classes locally and have one hell of a huge advantage. Drag racing historically has been Mopars bread and butter. Hell the drag pak kicked off the super stock wars again. If you love flying around a road course - this isnt your car. But the flip of the coin if you love drag racing why buy a z/28? |

The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with Hellcat HEMI V-8 engine is rated at 707 hp.
The Challenger's new 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat engine is also the first factory supercharged HEMI, as well as Dodge and SRT's first application of V-8 supercharger technology. For the first time in Chrysler Group history, the all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs -- red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full 707 horsepower and torque potential of the Challenger SRT Hellcat engine; while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output of 500 horsepower. Wonder if you use the 707 hp key fob if you void the warranty, that is what Bugatti does on the Veyron, one key for "normal" driving and a performance key to unlock the beast and void the warranty.....

I HIGHLY doubt the red key will void warranty. The black key is considered a 'valet' key. No use of paddles, can't disable traction control, locked out of first gear, rpms are limited to 4k, and hp is limited to 500.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't those 275's on the back. That's not going to cut it with 600 rwhp turning them.

Question, and this is not meant to stir up debate I'm just curious. How does dodge manage to get so much HP out of their naturally aspirated v8 (not the hell cat but their regular SRT?

Research = Knowledge = Truth There's so much BS/prejudice out there, I had to leave a bunch of forums/car clubs (chevy & ford). After 36 years of owning/racing performance cars, I can spot lies in a nano second. It gets tiring trying to correct people all the time, battling self centered pride in lieu of facts ... "Fox bodies are" "F bodies can" "My 440 ran" "My GT turned" "My SS did" "I'm totally stock" (the worst by far ... hahaha) Blah, blah, blah. Talk anything of importance these days, and common sense, logic, and facts seem to be the first thing tossed out the window. |

485 HP is not that much considering they have 6.4L to work with......

It's why peak HP is not the best predictor of performance.

392 = big cubes, thats how and it's not that impressive to be honest. Ford is getting 444 out of a 5.0 Boss motor, now that's impressive. Anyways, that's the gist of it.

The next base 5.0 is going to be over 420HP. But the 6.2 Vette engine is no slouch either with 460HP. Finally, Dodge has come into the hunt. 6.4 with 485HP is right up there. But what is more important for performance fans is power-to-weight on the driveline. This is an area that GM has dominated for 17 years. I would not be surprised to see the 6.4 LT1 get a bump next year or 2016.
