Yeah, I would have thought that we wouldn't be seeing the CT5-V until the LA Autoshow at the earliest.

But, what kind of engine it will have? LT4? Blackwing? Supercharger version of the Blackwing?

I believe it will be a twin turbo v8. The v8 will be smaller than 6 liters (I believe 5.5 or smaller). I think that the v8s will be smaller across the board eventually. I saw a CT5-v at the auto show, and its placard described the powertrain.

I'm thinking the intro of the CT5-V may be pulled ahead due to purgatory status of CT6. When CT6 goes on hiatus, there is no other use for Blackwing. Well, now there will be.

Also, I'm pretty sure that what you saw at the auto show was the CT6-V, not the CT5-V.

Here are some of my photos from NAIAS. Shots of CT6-V and Blackwing 4.2TT, 550 hp. The white haired gentleman that you can see if you peer through the steering wheel is Caddy main man, Steve Carlisle. He was doing an interview when I was snapping photos. He was VP of GM Planning for a while when I was there.

Yes that is the one. The designations confuse me at times.

Edit: 4.2...that's even smaller than I thought. Times are changing, and the small v8s will be where its at in a short while.

You're far from the only one. They should have just stuck with <letter>TS for their cars, or gone with actual names. Either would have been much better than changing to CT<number>.

^Thanks for agreeing with me. They are confusing and I'm a little afraid of their cars not being noticed as a result. Cadillac and GM has to advertise and come up with good slogans so that the cars can be noticed. Although I don't agree with all of Cadillac's styling cues, in general the brand still makes great cars, and they deserve to be noticed and to compete with the other well known luxury brands.

Seville? I think that was a size down from the de Ville. Maybe it was the other way around though.

Or they could just come up with brand new names & not dust off old ones.

The old lineup, from big to small was Fleetwood, Sedan de Ville, Coupe de Ville, Seville. Before that it was Fleetwood, Sedan de Ville, Coupe de Ville, El Dorado.

Now the thing that makes me scratch my head is, I have a friend in Cadillac Dealership Management that has a ‘73 El Dorado convertible. I was at his house one day when he was driving an assigned Escalade ESV. The Suburban-based Escalade. The El Dorado, which was the small Cadillac in its day, was longer than the Escalade ESV. He had to kiss the back of the garage with it to get the garage door closed.

When I learned that, it changed my opinion on the Escalade. I used to think of them as huge, glitzed up, flashes of money. Then I learned that they're not quite as big as the old El Dorado's -which are beloved as huge, glitzed up, flashes of money. Thats when they clicked. Now I just think of them as the modern day equivalent to the El Dorado and I'm fine with them.

Cadillac was also on the top in size hierarchy. Cadillac had the longest chassis of all the gm makes. The pecking order was: Cadillac, then Buick and Oldsmobile (still very large cars), then Pontiac and Chevrolet (shorter chassis but still large cars) This order was in place up to 1984, when Cadillac suddenly became one of the smallest cars in GM's line-up.

Cadillac did not become one of the smallest cars in GM's lineup back in the mid 80's, they produced fwd Sedan Deville's and Seville's but they were small only to the big cars of the 60's & 70's.

Cadillac produced the big rwd Fleetwood up until the final one rolled off the line in model year '96 with the LT-1 V8's same as the Impala SS of the day, these were some quick big cars for the time.

My Dad, as he worked his way up the pecking order at his job, started with Chevrolet and moved up every GM brand except for Buick.
