now its no secret that the Camaro is...umm...hefty, so i wouldve thought that weight reduction would be one of THE first things one would do with their camaro to make it faster
Maybe no one has thought about an overall weight reduction. Seems unlikely but maybe no one has just thought about doing it. lol
But either way I agree lower weight on this beast would definitely show a difference.

But I know what your saying...good point.

I really want to look into gears for my car...such as the 4.10. But damn us 5th gen guys seem to be VERY BEHIND in terms of testing and tuning. It has been a year now and we still dont have reliable information on the effectiveness of 4.10's in the camaro.

Seems like the 5.0 has had almost as much hot rodding/tuning done to it as the camaro which has been out for a year longer. Not a good thing...

As far as the clutch. Mine has performed fine so far. I got a little bit of the clutch smell in the first month or two of ownership if I slipped it. Havent had it lately.
The clutch also makes a bit of noise when pushing down the pedal quickly from a stop or slow roll. Other than that it has been fine. I will drive it like this till the clutch is gone. Then I will put a performance clutch in it and do it myself.

I have also heard of clutch issues from the 5.0 as well. Evolutions car only lasted 13 passes. But not enough cars have been sold to know for sure.
Yet LG motorsports full weight 480rwhp low 11 second 2010 camaro was on the stock clutch....so I guess you never know. And they had been running that car since it was stock.

I guess it is just the luck of the draw so far...no recall has been issued.

the chasis has been out since the 2005 model year. minor changes to 2011 means just lightly mod chasis pieces, and focus on the motor. getting an S-197 to hook is easy.

so far my car is good. but miles will tell.

absolutely. thats why i dont understand why nobody (especially a "shop" car) hasnt done something like that with the new camaro. yes, its really cool to see what it does in street trim...im a fan of that. but id also like to see what it does when its balls to the wall.

geez...yes all of us Camaro owners get a memo on how to collectively act. Also, your posts so far have done exactly what your crying about - except your saying the mustang has always been "better".

I'm sure there's plenty of Mustang owners on this site (and probably your other Mustang Forums) that wish you would just go away. :(

First of all, im new to the forum and so this is my first post. My name is Dave and im a huge fan of all things chevy/camaro. I dont currently own a fifth gen, but i do own an 87 Firebird with more than a few mods haha.

Anyways back on topic. For the last two weeks GM has been doing what they call a vehicle advocate program where basically they let their employees drive Gm and competitors' vehicles. Since my uncle is an engineer at the Tech center I was able to attend on both monday and saturday and I was able to drive both the 2010 Camaro and the 2011 mustang 5.0. And so here are my impressions.

First let me just say that the Camaro is one beautiful car both inside and out. Pictures just dont do it justice; you have to see it in person to appreciate it. The interior is awesome especially with the two tone seats. The seats were surprisingly comfy and the dash was pretty cool looking. Yes it does have limited visibility but you forget it once you hammer the throttle. And when you do the SS gets up and goes pretty damn good. It pulled harder than i expected it to. One thing i noticed was that the auto/L99 seemed lazy when you floored it. Its just didnt pull nearly as hard as the ls3. Im not sure why but you could definitely tell the difference. I think maybe it wasnt downshifting to first, but even when we floored it from a dead stop it still didnt pull as hard as the ls3. (Not because of the power difference. Either something was wrong with both auto cars i drove, or the auto/L99 is just not tuned right in stock form)

The ls3 though was a blast to drive. It pulled hard and sounded 10 times better than the L99. It was almost like a totally different car. All in all I was extremely impressed with the SS, and be warned: if you drive one, you will want one really bad lol.

Now for the mustang. I was a little surprised by the 5.0 also. It pulls pretty hard! In my opinion it does not pull like the ls3, but it def pulled harder than the L99's that i drove. This really is going to be close on the streets, but those of use that drovve both agreed that the ls3 cars will take the 5.0. Now the 5.0 we drove was an auto unfortunately, but it didnt seem lazy like the camaro auto. I dont see the manual being any faster than the auto stang, unless you are a damn good shifter. With same level drivers, the ls3 is probably going to win. Let the flaming begin, but unless youve drove both dont come on here saying how the 5.0 is going to own the SS blah blah weight difference blah. Make no mistake about it, this is going to be a drivers race.

And about the stangs styling, in my opinion its just not as sharp as the camaro. Its not ugly, but i think the camaro has the better look. I will say the seats are really nice. Didnt like the dash very much. Exterior wise, didnt like the rear end, but the front is ok. All in all its a nice car though. Looks are jsut a matter of opinion though. And finally the mustang is going to put up a fight without forced induction.

In conclusion, these two pony cars are the real deal. You really cant go by what any of the magazines say. Your best bet would be to test drive both and see for your self. These are definitely exciting times for us car lovers as right now there are two very even and very awesome cars available to choose from. Sorry about the long post but if anyone else has any impressions of both cars feel free to post em up.
Its nice to hear a honest opinion of someone that drove both cars.We sometimes get in a pissing conttest with people in other cars.Especially Mustangs...lol...I totally plan on driving both cars, and then make a decision on which one i like better.Lets be honest, both cars are pretty awesome.Who cares if someones car is a little faster stock. If you are that concerned about having the faster car, then i really doubt you will be keeping it stock anyways.I know as soon as i decide I'll be slapping either a turbo or a Kenne Bell on that sucker.

good review and it shows how the seat of the pants feeling can be misleading and totally off! I remember my friends LT1 Camaro feeling like it was faster than my old LS1 Camaro. Of course it wasnt, but off idle torque can confuse you like that!

No obviously I'm not. I guess pointing out how one community of automobile enthusiasts act, versus another makes me a complete idiot.

Maybe now you all understand how annoying it is to get pestered by people who come into your forums and assault your choice of vehicle. If it were a perfect world, we wouldn't argue over which is better, however the world is not perfect.

Therefore when all of the rude Camaro owners stay off of our forums, then I will recant my accusatory statements on this forum.

Have a nice day gentlemen.
