I recently took an NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course. I was using a full size M&P 9 full size and a Milt Sparks VM II IWB holster. All shots start with drawing from the holster. All shots with a cover garment over the gun, drawing from concealment.

The first picture is This is shooting from the hip at 3'. The cross mark is about 5".
2nd This is drawing from a standing position then moving forward about 5' and dropping to a knee behind concealment at 21'. The cross mark is only 3"
3rd This is wearing DeSantis Low Light Simulator Goggles from 21'. The cross mark is about 5"

What do you guys know about polymer AR-15 lower receivers? Do they hold up? I love the idea of having an AR that I don't have to register, but only if it's a useful firearm.

Do your research before you buy. There are a lot of manufacturers for polymer lowers but only some of them make quality products. Also personally I would only use them on a target gun, not something I plan on hunting with or carrying. Even the best polymer lowers can not stand up to the stresses of being out in the field for long.

If you're talking about lowers you don't have to register then you must be looking at 80% lowers. Over the years I've read enough bad reviews and heard enough horror stories about the 80% lowers to never trust them with my life. They simply are not quality made like some of the top manufacturers of 100% lowers.

I know a lot of people who use 80% lowers that were made from aluminum, and have been using them for years with no issues.

He's asking about polymer, not aluminum.

True, but you made a blanket statement (or, at least it came across as a blanket statement) about 80% lowers. I think that's why he responded as he did.

Yeah. I'm talking about an 80% lower. I thought it might be a cool way to go since I don't have aluminum milling equipment.

Thanks for the input though. I guess I'll go with a registered one then.

Makes my blood boil. Things like this should clearly show the people of California- and the USA- that the goal is not to curb violence. How could it? It doesn't address that, exactly the same number of firearms are out there right now. All this addresses is the ability for people to legally purchase. It's so transparent. When laws are written that do not stop crime and never were designed to stop crime, and all they do is impact the people who want to comply with law, then there's a really serious problem, because the People are not running the state.

Mansfield? You probably know some buddies of mine. Older one used to drive Cobra attack helicopters, younger one was a crew chief for them.

Nice shooting

I'm just not getting why anyone would want to live in Cali. You cant conceal, you can mod your car, you pay stupid high taxes, stupid high prices for everything, and then to add insult to injury you basically get told how to live your life. I would never live somewhere that wouldn't give me the freedom to do what I WANT to do...within reason of course. Just my .02¢

Cali used to be the land of fun. To have lived within ten miles of the ocean in SoCal around 1966 must have been something. And there are still many breathtaking places to live in California.

Hey Chris, I think we have talked before. Yup it's MFG. I am also a member. Is the younger one a Canton detective?

Are you on Northeastshooters? I am same name there.

Thanks for the compliment on my shooting. That was the first time I shot my M&P 9 in a bout a year. It's not my EDC so I never shoot it. But I just ordered a Milt Sparks Versa Max II for it and will make it my EDC.

No, neither one is a LEO. Coincidentally I live in Canton now. I've been to NEshooters but never registered.

Now that I live in a place that doesn't assume I'm a criminal and I can carry, I need to get a pistol I can think of as EDC but I could never conceal my favorite shooting pistol, my Sig P226. Just too big. Thinking of maybe a PPS.
