You need to figure out what kind of bullets and weight you will mostly be shooting before you decide on what barrel. Most mass produced rounds for the .223 is 50 or 55 grains so you will want the 1:9 twist. However if you will be reloading and use the heavier grains that are in the 75 and up mark like what is mostly used in hunting you will want the 1:7.

Yeah I don't plan to go hunting with the gun. It's going to mainly be a range gun and "when the sh*t hits the fan" protection gun.

I just bought that stainless steel 5.56 NATO upper 16" with a 1:9 twist. Now just to wait the 15 business days for it to ship. And also wait two weeks to buy the BCG and CH.

Ok so now I'm confused again and I've tried to look it up but I can't find what I'm looking for.

This is the lower I bought: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...-magazine.html

This is the upper I bought: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...ng-handle.html

This is the charging handle I want to buy: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-G...%204%20556.htm

However, it says it is only compatible with Mil-Spec AR-15 Direct Impingement Weapon Systems. I have tried to look and see what type my upper is but I really don't know.

So now I have everything picked out (I hope) except for my BCG and accessories.

Can some of you shed some light on whether or not my upper is DI?

I researched what each of the types were but I just couldn't tell for sure.

Edit: I've been googling a lot more and from what it looks like it is DI. However, I don't think my upper is MIL-SPEC because on the uppers that are MIL spec it says in the description on PSA. I've been reading on forums and they say the BCM will fit in a commercial spec upper but do any of you know if that is true or not?

I think you're safe, Ive never even heard of a Comspec receiver, only buffer tubes.

What are you looking at for BCGs. theres a lot of different ones out there. its pretty much the most important part of the rifle, at least IMO.

I was going to get the RRA Chrome BCG but I was told that if I put a full auto BCG into the gun it helps suppress some of the recoil due to the heavier weight.

But right now these are my two options

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...d=931&fprdct=1

or

http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...with-logo.html

I'm also going to go hit up some local gun shops and see what they offer. I don't really want to order from PSA considering the lead times and it will be the only part I'll be lacking once I have the upper and lower.

Both of those look good for what youre building. a fullauto bcg will just handle a lot more stress and heat than a non full auto, you wont feel any difference... and if you have a friend or access to a fullauto lower, you can have fun.

Make sure that if youre buying a NiB BCG that the bolt is also NiB. I had a buddy buy an extra cuz it was on sale for a killer price, it had a regular phosphate bolt... that's why the price was low.

I'm pretty excited I just got the tracking information and my completed lower comes in tomorrow! At least I'll get to see a piece of it!

Well I've made all my purchases.

I went with:

PSA Complete "blem" lower (I already got this and don't know why they call it a blem it only has one small scratch)
PSA Complete upper 5.56 nato 1:9 16" stainless steel barrel with MI 12" free float
PSA NiB and MPI BCG
BCM gunfighter mod 4 charging handle

and now I just need to find optics and other accessories.
