Started with a Canon G2. Regretted it. Camera was too big to be convenient, but didn't have the lens flexibility of an SLR. I fiigured I'd keep my film SLR "as a purest". That lasted about 5 mins. Now we have my DSLR and a true pocket size camera with a ton of features. Going part way didn't work for me.



Have just always been a Canon guy. Brand loyalty I guess. But sure do hear great things about the Nikon as well.

or 40D and 50D. Could just go on ebay and pick up a real nice 20D or 30D for not much money. Just giving up some mega pixels. But a good start.

Film is still the winner, too bad it's so expensive... $500 Hasselblad's on ebay
Olympus made a good camera in the E-20n, found a "never left the studio" example for dirt cheap. Get's ya backstage for free too sometimes
