I love that thing. Got it used but it looks brand new- pic is on the previous page now, I think.

It's 9mm, West German model, made in '88. Trigger to die for in SA and DA. 15 round mags so the grip is a touch wide put not uncomfortably so. Very reliable operation, and accurate. Everything about it is as smooth as snot, it just works.

I disliked the European type 'dash and dot' sights so I painted them over in black. I vastly prefer the regular patridge sights

don't sweat the p2000 or p30.. it's like Porsche Boxster and Caymen owners.. every time you pull the trigger you wish you had spent more on the USP tactical (or 911 for reference)..

when i was in the market, i had a choice between the USP tactical, FNP tactical, or M&P.. i went with the M&P and saved $300+.. i have thousands of rounds through it including suppressed rounds and i love my M&P

A few of my family members all coordinated gifts for Christmas to get me a quad-rail handguard, grip-pod foregrip/bipod, and Barska green laser for my M4... Couldn't be happier, I love having a gun-oriented family! Merry Christmas/happy holidays to all!

The Smith & Wesson SD9 VE and SD40 VE series of self defense pistols were released last year in order to cram as many high quality features as possible into the least expensive package as possible. The lineage started out a bit shaky with the S&W Sigma pistols and then on to the SW series. But taking the “best” (if that’s possible) features from it’s previous two ancestors and linking it with the shooter friendly features of the M&P series, the SD9 and SD40 pistols were born.
Without being a total spoiler, I believe Smith & Wesson succeeded. As a matter of fact, because of the price and performance coupled with ease of use, I believe this 9mm handgun is a phenomenal option for a bug-out-bag or a 3 day pack of sorts. And if it’s all you can afford, BUY IT AND CARRY IT!
Here are some bullet point thoughts regarding my assessment of the Smith & Wesson SD9 VE.
  • Literally looks like the love child of a S&W M&P series and an old Sigma and SW series pistols.
  • Same size as a Glock 19 or an M&P9.
  • Feels like an M&P minus changeable back straps. And it does feel GREAT in the hand.
  • Solid 8 pound double action trigger. VASTLY improved over the Sigma triggers of old. And as good or better than most M&P.
  • No manual safety. Big waste of time, parts, speed, etc.
  • Textured index/memory points on the frame forward of the trigger guard with feel that matches the grip. Which is actually a little slick. If you’re into DIY I’d stipple the textured parts of the grip to be much more aggressive.
  • ACCURATE. Smooth shooter too. The trigger is still heavy compared to most but it was not a distraction. Accurate to point of aim right out of the box too.
  • Boringly RELIABLE. Just a tad under 400 rounds spread out over a few months (We at HoG have been feeling the ammo pinch too) and no failures of any kind.
  • Field strip is stupid simple. How simple? This thing is a Glock when it comes to take down. To a “T”.
  • Comes with TWO (2) magazines! Which is my expected minimum from any pistol these days. Budget or Bankrupting.
  • It’s a $325(ish) handgun. That’s a budget gun if I’ve ever seen one. For the features and performance it could easily cost $100 more. If you can afford a Hi-Point at $125, you can afford to save up a couple extra months to get an SD9 VE.
  • ZERO ambidextrous features. If that matters to you move on.
  • Some plastic/polymer parts. Sights, guide rod, take down lever.

Personally do not care for that one at all. Maybe let us know what this is for as well. I like the Kahr CM9. But maybe does not fit your needs.

I just discovered a cool gun for your lady, but it is not out yet. Check this out, it's a .380 that has a swappable .32 barrel. The Beretta PICO. (I think the .32 barrel will be an add-on)
Beretta claims you can swap the barrel in less than a minute. That way, she can start with the .32 and then work up to the better stopping power of the .380 if she chooses. I think I will get one for myself for shoots and giggles when they come out.
(Probably a good idea to wait 6 months for any new gun, but you get the point.)
Looks kinda cool too for a pocket pistol. Would make a great back up piece.
