Okay, fellahs, let's see: "Cheval" does indeed mean horse in French. The word "saddle" does mean a seat for riding upon a horse in English (the French word for saddle is la selle), and the word "cheval is not a word in English. The rule says that words may have an origin from other languages, but foreign words per se are not permitted in our game.
As to the new word "hoarse", it means to have a a distortion of sounds that emanate from the throat as the result of an accumulation of fluids, mucus, or inflammations in or around the larynx. Interestingly, the French would describe this situation as one where "On a avalé un chat." Which means where one has swallowed a cat! If I might begin a new search, for something we all love: "Clitoris". |

Sorry guys, you all failed. The word cheval is indeed a word in English. It's a full length mirror that swings in a frame.
Here's a pic. ![]() Since no one got it, I have the next word. Next word: jingoistic By the way, this is my third shut out.

It's an adjective describing small minded incitations used in the media/politician milieu to whip up ill will against a certain group by lavishing praise, often undeservedly, upon that group's opponents with whom the media/politicians identify. By the way, I looked up the term in the Oxford English Dictionary, not a violation of the rules since that word was settled, "cheval" is NOT listed alone because it's still not an English word. It is linked with "glass, or mirror" as in "cheval mirror". I suppose that this might derive from it's being used by a rich dude on horse back having his servant tilt the mirror so he can see how he looks before he goes out fox hunting with the rich chicks doing the same thing. Does that sound plausible to any of ya'? About the "shutting out", I do not think that was a goal of this game. I, for one, have re-steered the word choice back to the graspable from the overly esoteric many times now. We just want (as is said in that song) to have fun. New word: "humus" |

I agree, fellahs. It seems that caution must also be a watchword if this game is to work AND remain friendly. Our brotherly Jeopardy cannot be played if the words selected are too esoteric for all but the gamiest (stinkiest) of players. Fun needs to spread from the participants, not the maven who created the game itself.

(side note to Ivas: apparantly folks had difficulties locating the previous word you had supplied - clitoris - perhaps some of the C5 ladies could help with this one?)
Humus is a dark, rich soil. Not to be confused with: "Hummus" |

The "clitoris" may have been lost during a heated ploughing of the rich dark soil... Okay, I admit that this riposte ain't hilarious, but at least it's humurous. The real word now supplied for us is "Hummus". THAT word means a purée of chick peas, garlic and other spices with some olive oil usually. It's yummy. NEW WORD: "Rubbish" |

Holy Moses! Now, you wanna' play with the big boys (or at least those who have big egos).
It refers to the ending of the world; you know, that Armageddon business. Since you brought it up, let's continue in this vein for a minute. New word: "Heresy" |
