Try the first tune, ignore the HP just race mod the car, get racing softs and go with whats stock. The ZR1 RM is inherently twitchy this should settle it down a bit.

Throwing HP at street cars is a poor idea in this game they will never handle like the race and RM cars do. I have a GTR I use online a lot thats an absolute killer at 600 hp but I rarely run with more than 600 HP as any more than that its just too much of a handful even with AWD. I'm actually slower, especially on the ring with more HP than that.
Good to know, Mine is race modified

Exactly...

Street cars just don't have the suspension to be able to put the power to the ground. Similar to real life, how many of these 1000 HP tuner Vipers and so on do you see setting lap records at race tracks? They don't because the factory chassis and suspension can't put the power down on a race track situation. Even upgrading the hell out of the suspension isn't the same as a true race car. This game takes into account that a race car has a much stiffer chassis, more aggressive suspension mountings and setup, and so on.

Could it be done IRL in a street car? Absolutely with a ton of money and time. I believe they wanted to keep the differentiation between street and race cars up though so you couldn't just spend a few hundred K hooking up your viper and then take down Group C race cars.

I bought a ZR1 and did nothing to it but race mod, its around 700 HP and is an absolute weapon on the racetrack with a good suspension setup similar to what I linked above. Don't need any extra HP at all.

Be aware that when you race modify your car, you will lose all previous modifications (supercharger, for example) you have already installed.

Correct you don't lose all of them, you just need to reselect them from the tuning menu.

That said you will lose certain mods that are equal to or lower than what RM does. Ex if you had titanium race exhaust, or height adjustable kit, those are included with RM so you lose the money you spent. If you have lower versions (like a height adjustable sports kit) that goes too.

So I got the racing modifications to my ZR1 last night... hot damn that thing is awesome now! It handles every turn like a champ. I put every upgrade back on to see what the max horse power was and its 884 I believe. I was struggling to take corners at high speed in one of the championship expert series and would usually spin out trying to hold a tight corner, costing me the race. Now I was able to power through every turn and finish the championship.

Now to try some more challenges and special events, then look for another car to race the other types, MR and FF mainly.

See thats what I mean. Street cars will never be the same.

The easiest and cheapest way to get a good FF and MR car is to buy a new 04 Integra Type R and a new 91 NSX and RM both of them. Both are well balanced good cars in each class.

Are they available from the dealer or have to get from used cars when they show up?

I bought a 98 Mitsubishi 3000GT hoping to use it for the 4WD races but you can't RM it. That was my first super powered car in the original GT for PS1. Forest Green. Its still one of my favorite real life cars.

For all the guys trying to RM all their cars there are only about 14 or so that you can do that to in the GT shop.

Any car outside of that, just do a search in the Tuning Secition of the gtplanet forum boards and 90% guaranteed you will get lucky.
