Telling them they have to wait hours for their car to charge is unacceptable in any situation, even overnight. |

I'm sorry guys,
I'm all about alternative fuels and ways to be green and conserve natural resources... But the electric car is not gonna be what gets us there... All things considered electric vehicles are only marginally "better" for the environment than Gas cars... And as we are seeing ... significantly more expensive. I maintain that hybrid cars and continuing regulations like CAFE will do more for the environment by making gas engines more efficient and green and cost less to do it. I'm betting we can do more to conserve and less to polute, through the ongoing refinement of the gas and hybrid systems. Then we can by looking to completely new and different technologies... There are simply too many of us that require inexpensive forms of transportation.... We can afford to pay and extra 3-5K for a hybrid car that helps us buy less gas and produces less pollutants... But very few of us can pay an extra 10 - 20K for an electric car that you have to plug in.... IMO The Volt is the direction 80% of the green cars in the world will follow for the foreseeable future. just my 2 cents.

And lets not forget.. the lessions we learn in making more efficient engines actually enables more powerful ones as well. Now, having said all that, I am perfectly happy with my 500+ RWHP 22 MPG Camaro...

First, there is money in EV. It may not be the next internal combustion engine (i.e. last us 100 years) but as a stop gap measure it is significant progress. I bet someone once said there was no money in computers... or telephones... yeah. That's a short sighted statement on your part. Charging a car overnight is unacceptable? I find that a very reasonable trade-off for the savings in "filling up". Is it as fast? No, but there are quick charges that are less than 8 hours (apparently up to 45min but like others have said we'll have to wait and see how this claim pans out). At some point everyone has to sleep. Is it really that unreasonable to put that down time to use? You are being very close minded. There will be other options besides EV but each one should be explored to find out what will work best. |

well, big oil has been trying to keep fuel efficient cars and EVs from becoming main stream for a while. They kept buying plans for them and burying the plans. But now that the major automakers are the ones drawing up the plans, big oil won't be able to stop them.
Anyway, like I said, it's really just a matter of time now, we just need to wait lil longer till the experts perfect the proper technology to make EVs more main stream and affordable.

Right now EV isn't ready for prime time as a primary vehicle but there is no reason it can't be a second vehicle or, if you live in a city like SF or Tulsa or NYC, it could be your primary car. |

The minority populations that require individual transportation in urban areas must be affluent in order to provide safety for their EV by having a private garage. There is no viable public charging solution that is secure. You can't have city blocks lined with 100's of kW's being pumped into cars without problems. Public transit will always be the best solution in large cities for average people. |
