I'm 58 and my first car was a 55 Chev 210 sedan and was ready for the junk yard when I bought it , was told the engine would prob. not last a month , so being young and stupid I did my best to kill that poor little 265 , went through 2 rear ends , 3 3speed trannies , a ton of U joints before she finally let go but I had the most fun in my life in that car and yes I wish I still had it along with a bunch of others I have owned :(

My first was a 1985 Honda Accord Hatchback 5 speed - Gold on shit bringle brown/gold interior. It was quick, the seats were garbage, the tired were flatspotted (sounded like a lifted 4 x 4 with mudders on it on the road!) the sunroof leaked, and it was just plain horrible - but it was mine. Dad hopped in it one day and sat in a puddle from the rain the night before and drove it straight to a Jeep dealer and bought me a Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 2.5 Iron Duke 5 speed. Slowest thing on 4 wheels. Sigh. A few years later, I found MY first Camaro - an '85 Berlinetta V8 T-tops car. Traded my Caddy Eldorado straight up for it. I LOVED THAT Berlinetta. Sure wish she was still here.

I miss it. Should have never sold it. It was a 73 Z28 that I ordered and bought new. Unlike Randy's it was not a POS, but a real head turner that didn't burn oil, just the rear tires. My SS has helped ease that pain quite a bit.

Mine was a 1998 Cadillac Deville in Diamond White and so many more luxury features than I needed Lol. It had seat massagers!

Although the first car that I drove when I got a learner's permit was a 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS 327/Auto, the first car that I owned was a 1968 Dodge Polara 440 Magnum/Auto. The Polara is certainly a big car by today's standards, but it is smaller than an Imperial or El Dorado of the day.
I took a little grief from high school classmates at first when they saw the "full size" Polara, but after a couple of "street showdowns", the attitude changed... the Polara had embarrassed some of the local hot rods. It turns out the 375 HP 440 Magnum powered gal could handle herself quite well, and the only high school car she never beat was a 1968 Plymouth 440 Super Commando (Magnum) GTX. There were certainly other hot rods in the area that the Polara would lose to, but only a few high school cars gave her a tight race. With the long overhang over the rear axle, there was enough weight there to limit tire spin to a minimum with the Sure Grip axle. Totally stock the Polara would turn a mid 14 sec quarter at slightly over 100 MPH... I quit driving the Polara regularly in the mid 1980s, and it sat mostly outside, with the weather taking a toll on the car. I last drove it in the early 1990s, and finally got it stored inside in 1997. The Polara hasn't run since the 1990s, and looks fairly rough now. I have always planned to restore the 'ol gal, but with all my other projects I do not know if it will ever happen... In 2001 I bought a 1968 Polara 4Dr HT 48,000 mile "survivor" car as a substitute for my first car. It is the same "Alpine White" color, but is powered by a 383 2BBL... a far cry from the 375 HP 440 Magnum of the original car. It is a lot of fun to drive the now 54,000 mile car, and it gets a lot of attention when I do. Very few people recognize the car, even fellow Mopar fans... one of them asked me why I brought an Oldsmobile to a Mopar meet. But, I still miss driving the real first car... might have to do something about that in a few years! Allen

My first was '93 V6 Camaro. She was fun, had a nice sound system, but was getting old and the gas gauge didn't work anymore. Somewhat but not really miss it.

'82 Monte Carlo (Redwood exterior, Caramel interior), t-tops, awesome ride, when I got it from dad, it was 8 yrs old and had less than 30K miles on it....but it only had a 2.8L V6...I kind of hated the car at the time...it was a dog...my best friend had a '78 Grand Prix with a big V8 in it, another buddy had a Vega with a Chevy 350 under the hood...heck even my girlfriend had an '80 Malibu with a 350....my car was the best looking, but it was S-L-O-W.....
After going to college and leaving it at home for 6 mos., I really missed that car and decided that I was going to buy it from my dad. Unfortunately, I didn't tell him of my plans and he traded it on a '91 Ranger (2wd, 4 cylinder, 5 speed...no redeeming qualities at all). I chased that car all around town dealer to dealer to private owner to a dealer (even to another city at one point), but by the time I caught up with it, the 2nd private owner since we had it was some punk 16 yr old kid and he had jacked the backend up, put some big tires under it, had half the car in primer gray, just totally effed it up. I gave up on it, knowing it would never be the same..... |
