A 'better' name for the top tier of performance isn't going to a help anything. How many people could possibly exist that would never buy a 550 hp twin turbo V8 CT5-V at say 80 grand buuuut will purchase an $80k 550 hp twin turbo V8 CT5-V+ or Blackwing or Wreath or whatever name they tack onto the end of the exact same car? Compare that to the number of people that will walk away in frustration as some salesman tries to explain that, no, the CT5-V isn't supposed to replace the CTS-V they're trying to trade in. Instead, they have try the CT5-????. If the first number is smaller than the second, its a dumb move.
This ^ the new naming structure is dumb already and now this is making it worse.

What really gets me is throwing 15 years of V Series down the drain. Even my non car guy friends new a V-Series Cadillac was a performance car.

Despite all that, if the price is right this could interest me down the road hahahah

You have perfectly described my state of being on this subject. Well put.

I just don’t understand the advantage of bringing in a new performance level over the established V series.

"Low end" Cadillacs? A 4cyl truck motor in a so-called performance Cadillac?...These are the highlights of the line-up redo so far?...I think what has really happened is the debut of the Impala replacements for the rental fleets.....Re-read the announcement, and the term "athletic" used to describe these Cadillacs is a euphemism for cheap and underpowered.

This weak V-sport connection is one of the worst applications of lip-stick on a pig to date....and courtesy of Cadillac, no less.

If they had introduced the Big Kahunas first and these two cars later as a mid-level sport package they would be perceived completely differently than they are now. This marketing team at GM is the worst they’ve ever had, no small accomplishment.

These would have been good V-sports for the last generation...

Nice looking cars....but that extra split-line between the grille and hood on the CT5 is weird....The CT4 hood and grille look better and cleaner....Same hood perhaps, but CT5 didn't get it's own that fit without the extra piece in between...one way to save a buck or two I guess...

It might actually be more expensive to add that little strip in front of the hood. That makes it a 'trapped hood' (its trapped on all 4 sides, vs 3 on a normal hood) and those require tighter tolerating on more parts to get it to look right. Tight tolerances usually mean more cost since there are going to be more rejected parts, or you need more advanced tooling, or you need to fiddle around with assembly more.

Plus the way the did it still doesn't really seem to reduce the part count even if the hood is shared, since the strip between the grill and the hood now needs to be made. Ordinarily, a trapped hood uses the top of the fascia (like on the Camaro) but this looks like it is its own little piece atop the grill.
