Any advice?

I don't want to put him in regular classes at this point because I fear it would teach him to quit or take the easy way out.

It pains me because I can't help him.

He's doing great in Guitar though.
I can help with trig if he needs it.. As for Chemistry,

Look on Craigslist or similar for college students in your area looking to make a few bucks tutoring. Our daughter is struggling in Chem right now and we have a Cal Berkeley student come to the house 2-4 hours a week and I think we're paying him $15-$20 an hour. Seems to be helping as she is climbing out of the hole she got in... good luck.

If you guys are serious, I would be in your debt. Probably nothing can be really done over the computer. Or am I wrong?

Sent a note to the school to set up appointments with his teachers and got back a reply telling me to call the school.

WTF?

This is BS. Or am I wrong on this? I've never had to do this before. Usually the teachers would send an appointment home with them.

Good luck to you and Bonnie, PQ...it will all work out if you and your son can work together for his benefit, and any help he can get to help him succeed...
You are doing the right thing by talking to the teachers...most are very cooperative when it comes to extra help either before or after school, or if they happen to have a free period when your son does...
Hang in there, bud.....
BTW, there have been studies done that show a direct correlation between studying music and music having a benefit in learning, and doing well in math and science classes...you might Google it to read more about the beneficial relationship between music success and school academics success...JMHO............

Doesn't seem to be working for him. I'd rather see failing guitar and doing well in the rest. I would be fine with 52 or 62 in guitar. Or any other art.

Don't get me wrong, I like instruments. Just don't think they are needed in school.

sounds like me X,

35 ACT 1420 SAT, 2.667 GPA.

As for any advice, I would say besides the tutoring, see if there's any programs for the computer or something that might help. Or find a chemist that plays guitar and can find paradox/analogies that might help him since he already gets guitar...

Trig was triangles. I broke everything into triangles. Basketball passes/cuts on a blackboard for example. As long as he gets Soh Cah Toa, he shouldn't have any problem with Trig, ever...Algebra is letters, Geometry was shapes, Trig is sohcahtoa and then calc is combining all.

You can. He can just ask random questions and we can try and answer them. I taught a guy on GMI how to factor polynomials online. Just kept scribbling down equations on a piece of paper and scanning them into my computer.

Chemistry isn't fun. No matter what.

Well, not unless you're blowing sh*t up. Then it's freaking awesome.

I may ask for your help. Just need to talk to his teachers first. Thanks bro.

My high school chemistry teacher loves working out (benches 500+ as a 5'8" asian guy). He loves hard rock, but looks nerdy as all hell with bigger arms then most people's legs.

He played guitar.
