Back in 1977, I went up to Canada with my family (Dad, mom, me & my brother, 2 cats and a dog) on a 51 foot ketch. We cruised for the summer in the Puget Sound up to Nanaimo and other inlets.

We cruised up the Princess Louisa Inlet, to the end of the inlet where there was a waterfall, and a small dock with one other boat anchored there...a very large powerboat (over 100 feet). After we had anchored, a skiff came over to our boat to invite us over for cocktails and dinner.

It ended up being John Wayne, and I was speechless. I was about 15, and it was pretty cool to meet one of my childhood heroes, and listen to some of the stories he told.
Wow! you got to meet "The Duke" on the Wild Goose......

There is a video about that boat. Love it. We plan to make to Princess Louisa Inlet on our boat someday. Maybe in the next couple of years.

Big Jake would be one of my all time favorite Westerns. And favorite John Wayne movies.

Other favorite westerns would be......

Wyatt Earp
Unforgiven
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Dances With Wolves
Many more I can't think of right now.

Finally. The best except for High Noon. Surprised it was not mentioned
before as High Noon is considered the best western ever by many critics.

1. Unforgiven (my favorite movie of any genre)
2. The Dollars Trilogy (Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood)
3. Blazing Saddles (I'll agree it's a farce, but I don't think there will ever be a funnier movie made again)
4. True Grit (either version)
5. Tombstone (this is actually my wife's favorite movie; it's a bit hokey in some parts, but there are some killer lines)

And I previously mentioned how great The Searchers and Winchester '73 are. I also said that one of my favorite Jimmy Stewart westerns was Destry Rides Again.
Coincidentally, in 1939 he played the outlaw Frank James in 'Jesse James' who was played by Tyrone Power
