Honestly, if you're taking care of your routine maintenance, 100k on a powertrain is easily achievable without issues. my 02 Silverado I bought new is at 148k no issues what so ever (knocking on wood, haha)

Not a deal breaker for me.

Guess it won't be a Mustang since they have a 5 year 60k warranty already....

I don't like it just because it's making GM seem like they don't have faith in their product that they are selling us , so how are we supposed to have confidence in their product, If they don't ?

It's simply that the 100,000 mile warranty was not generating more sales. They are simply saying they will provide the same warranty as Ford and Toyota, no big deal here but the haters will have to hate. It's in their blood.

This is definitely the wrong time for GM to do this after all the recalls and stuff!

Does that mean Ford and Toyota never have had faith in their drivetrains?
You all are over reacting.

Haha heck no. That new one is horrendous. Not saying it's a dealbreaker, just something to consider. It's disappointing to see a company lessen their commitment to stand behind their product, so I'm sure it's a move they expected to be frowned upon. But GM has still been good to me. Doesn't change my confidence in their reliability.

I didn't think Mary Berra would be that stupid to discard the 100k warranty. I think it was a big selling point. The survey they say they I think is pure BS. Who would say a 60k over 100k warranty would make no difference in a buying decision?

Definitely will hurt sales. Think of the average car buyer who doesn't know a thing about their car, that rely on these warranties.

Will make them wonder, gee what does GM have to hide that makes them want to slash their warranty mileage almost in half?

Definitely does not look good at all.

That is absolutely a ridiculous reason for cutting the warranty period back from 100,000 miles to 60,000 miles, because GM interviewed or polled buyers and "the customers said that was not a tipping point for them to buy a new vehicle" ..bologna!!....The real reason is that 100,00 mile powertrain warranty which covers the engine and transmission is costing GM mega bucks in repairs and more than likely failure in vehicles starting at 60,000 plus miles. So now making the factory warranty end at 60,000 miles the owners are responsible for any and all repairs. That 100,00 mile warranty was ABSOLUTELY a selling point for buyers, and now that GM is dropping the coverage to just 60,000 miles will only make potential buyers, including myself run to other car manufacturers who still offer the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Who was the genius behind this move.
I think this right here is going to be a key component to future sales as a whole. Someone like Ford who offers these things.

Ford does a 5/60k but for good reason....junk.

Hyundai has the best warranty not because they build the best cars but because people know that even if breaks they have no worries....hence they sell a lot of Sonata's and Elantras.

Dodge allows you to purchase a lifetime warranty on the whole car if you want, and still offers the 5/100k.

So here come GM on the heal of the recalls, bailouts, etc...and reduce the warranty???

Just not smart. I bought my last GM.

what are you guys whinning about?

ever since Canada switched over to the metric system, so did the car manufacturers...
so you guys were getting 100,000 miles warranty...we are getting here in Canada 100,000 kilometers= ~62,500 miles....so we have been getting the short end of the stick all along...and on top of that we get the priviledge of paying more $$ for the cars here to begin with...

I wonder if GM will reduce it further here also???

I agree with everyone, if GM cuts the warranty, people will shift their $$ elsewhere.
