OP - Grats on the purchase! You will love the Volt (If you don't already)

We bought our Volt for my wife in 2012 and came from a Blown 07 GT.

In every aspect, the Volt is a better car. Better built, more luxurious, great features, the Torque on it makes it a fun car and also the fact that it handles amazing for a 3700LB car.

As far as cost savings, I've said this before here, but, here goes.

You can qualify up to a $7,500 Federal Rebate (Provided you pay more than that in taxes) and depending on your state, 10% of the Vehicles MSRP. In total, we got back $11,500 for the Volt, not to mention we spend roughly $30.00 a month for the increased electricity. Our other choice was the Chevy Cruze RS, however, gas would still come out to about 40-60 a week, which will range from $140-$200 a month, vs. $30.00 a month for charging the car. That is already an average of $1,320 less per year in gas, not including the initial $11,500 we got back for purchasing this car.

The Volt should not be compared to a Smart car. If some here think the Volt is ugly, that's fine. The Smart Car is a small car that only has one benefit. Good Gas mileage. It is not a safe vehicle, has no real features/options. etc.

Our Volt is loaded up with the Bose sound system, 3 years of Onstar, Navigation, Heated Seats/Mirrors, Back-up Camera, etc.

Only seats 4, but, I've loaded 6FT ladders, dressers, rim/tire combos into it no problem. Can't really do that with a Smart Car.

One the 50 mile EV range runs out, the car switches to the 9 Gallon tank, which we have seen 37 MPG on the street and over 43 MPG on the highway cruising at 65 MPH.

Granted, the payments are a bit higher, but, average out your rebates, gas savings and consider the type of car you are getting. If you could care less and want a car that gets you from point A to point B, this is not the car for you. Get a used 150,000+ Mile Diesel VW that is rusted out and still gets 35+ MPG. That will save you real money.
