You can pick up an extremely low mileage one for under $70K easily.

Gorgeous looks, incredible exhaust note, solid performance....exceptionally rare

Maintenance isn't too bad since the engine is based on a Jaguar engine. R8 V10's are still going to have relatively high maintenance costs, Lambo-esqe V10...

about 5 sec 0-60 and runs 1/4 in over 13 sec.
At 70k you're better off with a much newer Jag or used GT-R
IMO

On the lambo forum they compare the two this way.
The Gallardo is the supermodel that you don't take home to meet the family the R8 is the girl you marry. not everybody is looking for the supermodel to get noticed and not everybody is looking for the girl to meet the family. Ive been rolling around the idea of a used G(05-06
) or a used R8 v10 (2011). The thing with the r8 is it an affordable exotic and you can get a CPO with 100k mile warranty and free scheduled maintenance up to 55k miles. Good luck finding a G with any kind of warranty but you can use Audi parts to save some of the cost. The maintenance cost posted are a little high from what I have come across but it is still no day in the park taking it to a shop, even and indy shop is pricey.

Just finished reading about the 2014 Audi R8 V-10 Plus, Base Price $174,795 and Price as Tested: $191,445

1st paragraph in Car & Driver; "The Audi R8 has always been a starter Supercar, a toe into the high-g waters. It doesn't wear an exotic badge, and it won't trigger too many adverse assumptions about your manhood. Other Supercars are riskier, wilder, more dangerous, less defensible. They test you by draining their batteries while at rest in the garage. They demand that you regularly remove the engines for new spark plugs. Just how invested are you in the whole Supercar lifestyle, anyway? Most Supercar owners are more like zookeepers than drivers. Actually driving one is the rare reward for all the feeding, protecting, and preening. The R8 isn't like that, though. For all its lofty performance and aluminum construction, it behaves pretty much like a normal Audi".

Sounds like the Best Deal in the Supercar World! And can it perform: 0 to 60: 3.2 sec. 1/4 mile: 11.4 sec @ 125 mph

My dad has the V8 Vantage. With 380 HP, I refer to it as "quick" but not exceptionally fast. It goes 0-60 in about 4.7 seconds. He can still have fun with it, without paying fines for triple digit speeding tickets lol

That car is not about going super fast, it's a blast to drive and it handles like a slot car. Paid half...HALF...what the car was sticker for brand new. It had about 3,500 miles on it when he bought it.

If you've driven a GT-R or been in one before than you know it's actually a pretty boring car. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love them, but most of the time it drives like a Nissan Maxima. If you are looking for a track beast and something that accelerates like the millennium falcon, yes, the GT-R is the car for you lol.

Plus, the maintenance costs on GT-R's are wild....the special differential fluid it takes is very expensive IIRC.

Having driven one, I tell this to people who are obsessed with them (and haven't driven one) all of the time and most people think I'm lying. It's like playing a video game with cheats on. The initial reaction is fun (because horsepower), but after driving for a while it gets very boring. It's a car for someone who only cares about track times and not the thrill of the drive, because there's no thrill or drama. Don't get me wrong, the car is a feat in engineering, but it's not the car for me.

I'm with TOBY J, as my tastes are a bit different...that sounds underwhelming for $70k. A stock WRX can run the 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and handles amazingly for $25k. The Focus ST is a little slower, but handles even better for the same price. Less than $5k in mods can get a WRX over 300WHP and better suspension/handling. Gorgeous cars, but for that price I'd expect better. If my limit was $70k, I would probably buy a C6 Z06.

FYI, that's not a knock on you or your dad. I love the fact that he seems to be thoroughly enjoying his car, which is all that matters in the end.

Some things are not about numbers and power they are about refinement and class and beauty. Astons are works of art sexy sleek. Like older Rolls Royce they listed there horse power number as satisfactory. no number just an assurance that its was enough to get the job done.

My tastes are a little different. I appreciate hand-built masterpieces and the work put into them, but I just don't "get" owning pretentious status-symbols that were meant to be ogled and belong in a museum. I realize some people like that, and that's fine. To me, it's all about the best driver's experience, which can be had for much cheaper than the cost of an Aston Martin. Although that V12 Vanquish...oh man.

Drive one if you get a chance. They seem "small" standing up close to them. They feel like a rent-a-car until you squeeze it. Fast yes, but BOORING!!! Wife was with me in this. Neither one of us liked it. JMO.

But if I'm spending 100K on a car, definitely a Lambo or even a Ferrari over an Audi R8, didn't look much better than a tricked out VW Bug IMO.
But did you hear the exhaust? I heard and saw one about 2 months ago! DAYUM THAT THING SOUNDS STROOONG!
