THe front end seems to be the only real letdown, rest appears to be a CHerokee light, at least what we have seen now. Nowhere NEAR comparable to an Aztec as it's problems stretched all the way back, into the interior, and to the horrible minivan underpinnings and the lackluster 3.4 V6 engine and 4 speed automatic. The Aztec was ugly beyond ugly with no real redeeming qualities. THis has potential though. I do wish they would have stouck with this front end though

Exactly. This is probably a good vehicle, but just ugly which is a shame as that alone can kill it dead.

Quick Jeep. Fire whomever re-did your Grand Cherokee and did this new Cherokee. Get a new face on them, and then you are golden.

I'm really wondering if this is what will make it to production, I haven't seen anything but negative comments about it.

If it does make it to production, how long until the emergency re-design team is called in? I give it 3 months.

I remember the Honda Crosstour's debut. That was even worse than the reception to this new Cherokee.

Actually the comments aren't all negative. It will sell what it needs to and probably looks considerably better in person and besides I am going to go out on a limb and say this is just the higher end model and we will see something more conventional on lower trims. This isn't GM and the Malibu or Honda and the Civic lol. the interior is also very nice and exterior besides the front end which i doubt will really be an issue with the general public. Now, i just wish it wasn't called Cherokee because i don't care what they say, this car based ute will NEVER have the offroad prowees or live up to the XJ's abilities.

Wow what a mess. Just when they start to turns things around they build this ugly thing. Someone might want to remind them how sales for the Aztek turned out. That vehicle will never grow on me ever.

Good, another FWD Jeep. The capability of an economy crossover combined with the build quality of an Alpha. All they need now is a FWD, 4-cyl version of the Viper, and the mortgaging of their brand names will be complete.

If they didn't, there would be no Jeep. Look at GM and Ford, both the traverse (trailblazer replacement) and Explorer are now car based, the equinox has replaced the plucky little tracker. CAFE is a total biotch and if they have to do this to keep the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee on the market as is, so be it, but it should NOT be called a Cherokee. Also don't be surprised if the thing has some models with some real offroad chops, the Patriots (and later compasses) with the offroad package and low range turned out to be some surprisingly capable offroaders that easily surpassed anything in the small SUV category for offroad ability.

I am just as irked about the Explorer turning into a glorified mini-van. At least with the trailblazer, they didn't try to recycle the name. It's worse for Jeep, though. That brand has a 70 year history behind it that is being sold short. Explorer and trailblazer were only around for about 20 and 10 years respectively, and those were just individual model names, not an entire brand.

I don't see why they need to do this to the Jeep brand to keep it alive. Why can't the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler survive on their own? How does the existence of a badge engineered Dart as a Jeep, which shares nothing but name alone with those vehicles make them more viable as individual models?

CAFE applies to all of Chrysler in general, not individual brands. So why not sell the Dart as just a Dodge instead of diluting Jeep with it and forcing Chrysler's individual brands to compete against each other? I know all companies badge engineer, but this is one of the worst forms of it. If they want another brand to badge engineer with that badly, why not make a Chrysler version of these FWD Dodges...(actually Fiats).

I have 16,000 problem free miles on my 2012 Grand Cherokee Limited. My wife says it's the best vehicle she has ever owned and she has had a ton of vehicles over the years. You can't believe everything you read. We had a traverse a few vehicles back that loved to eat timing chains until we unloaded. So go figure.

I think Chrysler products are much better than they get credit for. My father-in-law has a 2009 Dodge truck and a 2007 300C that have both been problem free.
