Thank goodness I've always said manual or automatic... and I'm fairly old and young so I'm in the middle of the babyboomer vs X generation so I get it from both sides.

The next one, is right after the one your in until you get to 18, then there are no more.

Know why there will never be a 21 speed in a truck?

10 fingers and 10 toes.

I am sure the 18 speed was designed by a guy who use to work in a saw mill who lost 2 fingers.
You have a spicer? There's your other 6... 2 granny, and 4 speed reverse.

Know what's REALLY funny? When I hear someone call a person a wimp for getting an auto. I'd love to put em in a car with non-syncro'd tranny and see who's the wimp.

It would go like this... "How you get it in first?....Nevermind, got it." rev to
2nd... (insert horrible grinding noises here) "$#!% how you get it in gear?...@#$% can I start over?"

No kidding, I have seen grown men cry in my big truck after trying to get it from one gear to the other.

Interesting thing. It is WAY easier to teach a 20 year old woman to shift than a 40 year old man.

check your workbench order or the sticker, GM themselves state 6 speed manual, nothing odd about stating something that is true,

I had a three speed in my 73 Mach 1. Bullet proof. I used to beat the shit out of that car and it never left me stranded. If I drove any new car like that I have no doubt wether it be Camaro or Mustang the thing would fall apart.

What do you think this post is doing? I didn't know they were saying that to say that it was manual, hence the post. Lighten up dude...

Yeah but the automatic is a 6 speed too. So saying "six speed" refers to both transmissions. It distinguishes nothing.

To me, hearing someone refer to their 2010 Camaro's transmission as "the 6 speed" sounds exactly like someone who calls their engine a V4. They know V6 and V8 refers to 6 and 8 cylinder engine, so they think they just always add "V" to the cylinder count. So they really aren't saying anything, but they think they do because they know one small smidgen of half-information and made a false assumption.

Your argument makes no sense because no one is saying "six speed" (singular as you use it) but rather pointing out that their camaro is a "6 speed manual" transmission. As for your quaint v-engine remarks,if you really know what your talking about, you call them by their correct definition, but perhaps its because of your incorrect sentence struture that I don't understand your point.

People who own automatics don't know or care how many gears are in them

People who own manuals do

No, the point the OP and this thread is debating is the situation where you ask someone which transmission they have on their 2010 Camaro, and they say "Oh, I ordered the six speed". The OP and I do not like this phrase, because it does not answer the question. The 2010 can only be ordered with 6 speed transmissions. The question was whether it was an automatic or manual, and saying "six speed" does not indicate either way.

The engine argument I worded as clearly as I can, but I did catch the "known" typo. BTW, you misspelled "structure". You also used "your" when you really meant "you're" and "its" when you meant "it's". There is a reason I don't go grammar Nazi on people, and it applies to you too. You fail at grammar knowledge and application.

Anyway, to rephrase my engine analogy, my point was distinguishing between 6 speed automatic and manual transmissions by saying "6 speed" is much like referring to an I4 as a V4. I often hear people refer to the inline four cylinder engine in their car as a V4 because they hear the terms "V6" and "V8" and don't realize the letter refers to the shape of the cylinder arrangement. That mistake annoys me in a way that is similar to the transmission terminology mistake. Both mistakes involve the application of incomplete knowledge. Does that make sense?
