"Screen test!" Ha! I had not heard that term in a few years! (For the uninitiated, that's what somebody gets when they're sitting in the back seat of a cruiser, being a mouthy d-weed, and the cop has some need to stomp on the brake pedal... thus planting the perp's face squarely and enthusiastically into the divider screen.... COMEDY!)-------- I've been written up for "5 over..." It's usually when I was actually doing 15 over, but the cop "gives me a break" I have never been pulled over for doing "5 over..." but being WRITTEN for "5 over" is a different story.--------- That said, over the years, I have been pulled over many times, but being polite, respectful, even apologetic (and NEVER confronational) has resulted in at least 80% of my stops resulting in warning or less. Very few have resulted in a citation. Yes, I've been lucky... but respect goes a long way.

Scalded Dog, you are correct sir. It's amazing how demeanor, body language, tone of voice and even the look on your face can influence a negative or positive contact with law enforcement.

When I was much younger, I was ****y, argumentative and talked smack to the police whenever I had interaction with them. What that cost me was a ton of money, insurance premiums that were ridiculous and even a job later on in life when I tried applying for the sheriff's office.

Having been in law enforcement for over 25 years ya learn a thing or two. I was trying to give some of these youngsters a different approach so they might learn the lessons that took me years to learn. But the old saying, ya can lead a horse to water but ya can't make em drink seems to ring out here.

I think some of those police videos I see on tv are so funny. One a lady was pulled over so the officer could just tell her one of her brake lights were out, as soon as he walked up to the car she went into a cussing frenzy never asking why she was pulled over in the first place. So it ended up she got a ticket on her light being out instead of just being told about it...

My advice to everyone is.... Be nice to the police officer even if you think he is being a D***, you just may need his help some day and he may remember your attitude.......

We recently had two young officers ambushed and killed and two others were shot not too far from here. It all started with a traffic stop. The main thing I communicate when I am stopped is that I am not a threat. I only move when and how I am told to do so. This is the respect I automatically give regardless of my ideas of fairness. I was stopped and not cited several times when I first got this car... and I really don't appreciate the fishing that happens during the stop when you can feel that your every word and action is under intense scrutiny. I also have zero experience of walking up to a vehicle that I have stopped and having no idea who or what I am dealing with, or if I will make it home after my shift.

Face it, there are some cops out there with mighty big chips on their shoulders, and it is a power thing. But for the most part, there are many more of them who are down to earth, and level headed. People make mistakes, human nature. And if you treat the cop like a human being, 9 out of 10 times he will extend you the favor. Bottom line is though, don't give them the reason to make the stop in the first place. The last time I got stopped many years ago, it was at night, I saw my front headlight go out when I turned them on. I got stopped and turned on my cabin lights, put on the hazzards, and even shut the car off. The LEO asked me if I knew why I was pulled over, and I told him that it had to be because of the headlight. I told him that it just went out, and being it was 11:30 at night I could not do anything until the next day. He asked me if there was anything else he should know about, and I pointed to the inspection sticker and said I am 2 yrs overdue. He asked me why and I told him I am just a lazy guy!! He laughed, gave me back my paperwork, and told me to get the car in order. No ticket, no warning. I think all because I had a good nature about the whole thing.

I haven't has any issues with the cops in my area regarding anything, even my green halos. State troopers won't let anyone off with anything around here regarding speeding, but even they don't mess with me about my lights. I imagine if I drove like a jackass they would though lol.

The one "cop" I had issues with was the local 'hero' at the state park near my house. The park ranger was with his buddies trying to look cool telling someone off. I had my halos on green and he said I needed to change them in 'his park.' I looked at him and said,"How about white?", changed them to white and drove off. I didn't bother acting like a douche too him either. Didn't want to escalate the issue.

Good looking women get "warnings", the rest of us get tickets, tis how it goes. My last girlfriend looks like Megyn Kelly on Fox News, actually 5 yrs younger, and a real blonde, but anyways, she got caught speeding so many times and NEVER got a ticket.

One time she driving and taking me to get my car and of course, doing 53 in a 35 per normal, and we get pulled over. Cops first words were asking me if my seatbelt was properly latched.............. I do think she went 53 to make up the time for getting pulled over. Better yet, pulling away from the cop, back to 53.....................

PICS...Now.

I have been nice after being pulled over and gotten out of tickets...warnings or written down to 9 over no points violations...it is all attitude. You give them lip, they are going to give you the slip.
