With Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) certified ratings of 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 470 (637 N•m) lb.-ft. of torque for the Dodge Challenger SRT8®, Dodge Charger SRT8® and Chrysler 300 SRT8®, there’s no question the newest HEMI V-8 from the Chrysler Group is potent.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8® applications carry a rating of 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 465 (630 N•m) lb.-ft. of torque .

your argument is invalid. comparing earlier ratings to the new SAE 1 percent, independent verified ratings is wrong.

please read about the SAE j1349.

http://www.sae.org/certifiedpower/details.htm

please read and undestand they are written in stone.

ive been racing for decades, and it has nothing to do with SAE ratings. the hemi makes 470hp. maybe you can look up that actual dyno. it might be as high as 475 by SAE rules.
But the thing is there are a number of cars today that have been show to be overrated and not just the hemi or the Mustang GT. The BMW turbo 6 immediatly comes to mind. You simply cannot give a hp rating to a vehicle and expect everyone to have EXACTLY that much HP anyways because no 2 engines are going to be EXACTLY the same.

we are not talking about a number of cars. we are talking about a new SAE standard test of an assembly line motor. we are talknig about a 2012 392. the mustang gt is not underrated one HP. it makes SAE 416hp. inside the SAE allowance advertised rating of 412bhp.

the camaro LS3 is not underrated. it makes 426hp SAE.

manufacturers who voluntarily participate the the above mentioned SAE standards usually rate their motor low if they a smart about marketing.

so likely the max a hemi makes is 475hp, but it could also make 465hp SAE.
