You do not have to be one. We had a supply specialist in my Company who was from the Dominican Republic. He deployed with us and when we all got back Stateside, the whole Company (Officers, WOs, and Enlisted folks) drove to Topeka for his citizenship ceremony. It was awesome!

I also had a roommate in college that was a Canadian citizen but had served 3 years as an infantryman in the US Army.

Being from Texas, I just thought it an odd state to be introducing such strict immigration laws

You want to live in the USA do it the right way and enter legally and pay for the services you use.
There is the flip side of this coin as well. They also provide work as well as purchase goods in our economy. Having no illegal immigration could do harm to the economy as a whole. Which would drive labor prices up also causing the cost of goods to go up. And also force more jobs outside of the US.

LOL

essentially, American laborers are too damn expensive. legal immigrant workers are not. and they are some of the hardest workers you will ever find.

So, unless we want the prices of homes to surge we have to keep labor costs competitive.

so I am actually for more lenient work visa laws but am for the strict enforcement of immigration laws.... if that makes sense.
+1 well said

We have a large problem here in SC and it's not a border state either.

not sure what you mean by provide work, but what do you think US citizens spend their money on? those people that are unemployeed would spend their money on the same things...

Those unemployed people wont accept the wages that immigrants will take. Alot of these unemployed people have too much pride to go out and work in such places as foods services for one. These jobs can be filled now, but people wont take them.

The flaw in this logic is two-fold. PoorMansCamaro pointed out one.

The other is that you're making the assumption that there will be absolutely no more people immigrating into the U.S. which is a fallacy.

We are not going to tell people that they can't come here, we're just going to enforce the law that they can't come here illegally

Well there is a ton of illegals here. We have had many murders and home invasions with illegals involved. MS 13 is very big in Alabama and most the members are illegals. ICE has been raiding the chicken plants allot in the last few years and cutting down on that employment but now they are doing the work of the cartels and meth labs.

Also working for the local PD time after time again there are hit and run and hit and bail wreck involving illegals. Also PQ, Bonnie, Kathie and are kids where involved with a hit and bail accident down in Mobile in the last year with illegals bailing out of the car after smashing into a car that was then thrown into Kathies car with Bonnie and PQ's kids and my kids in it. We are lucky no one was killed and of coarse my insurance goes up because no one else was legal and had insurance but us.

Like the Arizona law, the Alabama bill, now law, allows a police officer who stops a motorist for a traffic violation to detain the person if he has a "reasonable suspicion" the person is in the country illegally. The sponsors said that if the motorist doesn't have a driver's license or other document to show, the police officer will have to try to determine the identity by checking other records. They said "reasonable suspicion" could include acting nervously or having a tag that doesn't match vehicle registration records.

This is, for the most part, how it works every day with the LEO world. PC is already obtained for a lawful stop. Detention is based on the results from the traffic stop. We detain regularly for motorists who can't produce identification.

Being on this side of the law, there really isn't any change in any procedure. The law is already there for illegal aliens. This isn't profiling, it's identifying.

And the reason people will not take those jobs is because they lay around and would rather get food stamps and welfare. Those programs need to be ended and get back to what America was built on a days pay for a day of work.
