Well executive compensation has gotten out of hand. We need to stop blaming the union boys and realize that GM has hundreds of managers who dont do anything. Not to mention, that damn CEO and his fat-cat salary.

Overall, Akerson gets less in compensation than most auto execs do, and being at the helm of GM is one of the toughest jobs for a CEO in any industry. He gets less than $2,000,000 in cash per year. Thats about what Charlie Sheen got per episode on a show where he basically played himself. What I'm trying to say is that there other people out there who do far less, and get paid far more.

GM executives are paid less than many of their counterparts. People who truly love to work there stay despite knowing that their friends elsewhere are making more money. It is true that executives across our economy are overpaid, but GM is not responsible for all the wrongs in this world, despite what some Ford drivers say.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure GM execs make pennies compared to other execs...

I can't say I am crazy about this statement if it's true:
..."Now Akerson says speed and cost are the aspects on which he will concentrate, telling the Journal that “during World War II, GM produced tanks and equipment within four years. Why should it take four years to put a car out?” " It takes 2-4 years to get the crash analysis done for a clean sheet car and this is what limiting the turn around time for these new vehicle developments. This is true for all car makers, not just GM. Always felt Lutz was one of the few top guys at GM that have passion for cars. Didn't quite understand the G**D** politic that drove him out. He's a patient of my brother-in-law in Ann Arbor and was told he still fly his personal fighter jet for fun. IMO, GM does need to have a car guy at the top instead of these bean counters.

No matter what, as much as I loved Bob Lutz's passion.. it was still during his, and Rick Wagoner's reign that GM went down.
Ackerson has a tough job... and unless U've run a company, let alone a company the size of GM, U will never kno what its like to be in his shoes. I personally am bewildered since th products coming outta GM these days are some of the best I've seen in my lifetime. The products in GM's pipeline are looking even more promising. What Ackerson said about cars being PRODUCTS was correct. Marketing and packaging are prime. Would U take a Rick Wagoner sponsored Pontiac G6 over a Ackerson sponsored Regal. Yeah the G6 was faster, but its lack of overall quality allowed for it to be. I was lighter, but at the cost of a plasticky interior and no where near the tech. |

Average Transaction Price:
GM: $32,965 Ford: $31,853 Chrysler: $28,086 Nissan: $27,495 Toyota: $25,268 Honda: $24,827 Hyundia: $20,372 Kia: $17,933 Average Incentives: GM: $3,683 Chrysler: $3,676 Nissan: $2,706 Ford: $2,571 Toyota: $2,134 Honda: $2,111 Hyundai/Kia: $1,563 and this is what I wanna pick out: We keep hearing that FORD is so much more profitable than GM because GM raised incentives last month to sell a WHOPPING 207K units... but what they forget to say is that: GM had an $1,112 price advantage over Ford to play with. Ford's incentives were EXACTLY $1,112 less than GM's. GM incentives were more focused and higher on DEAD Luxo cars (DTS and STS) a Luxo Wagon that I'm thankful is on sale, but really has no place in the United States (a testament that Ackerson is not a true beancounter, because if he were this car would have been taken off the market on day one of his arrival), and the moving of vehicles like the 6 year old Impala, and the 5 year old, highly profitable GMT SUVs. Examples showing how luxo marques have incentives: BMW 6series up to $15K M6 up to $17,500 brand new 7series up to $2K X5 up to $3500 3series up to $3500 Lexus LS460 up to $4K Infiniti FX up to $7K Infiniti G up to $3K brand new E-Class up to $2K |

It shouldn't matter if they used more incentives to get higher sell volume as long as they can still be price competitive and PROFITABLE. I do this all the time even with my engineering consulting business; if someone willing to sign up with me for 6 months or longer projects, I always give them a better price quote. Would you rather hold your price and sit on these cars or reduce the price and keeping them moving? The last time I look, there weren't a whole lot of incentives on the lower priced and/or hot selling vehicles; only on the expensive and/or older models.
