There's always ways to save and cut back, but many people still "have" to have the best of everything even when they can save by buying off brands. Don't buy as many snacks, sodas, etc. I'm not directing this at you J. I'm just using an example.
I do that already. Lol. Don't use a lot of coupons, but I always buy the store name brand. Lol

Tony Soprano didn't worry about gas prices back in the 90s (1:04)

Eventually the prices get to the point where people slow down consumption - which puts a halt to economic growth, employment, and the future of our country and other countries now that we have a more global economy.

Your statement just shows where a large portion of the problem is. people don't pay attention because it doesn't affect them yet. When people don't care, don't pay attention, and generally just don't give a *%(@!#$ the world in general suffers.

Thank you for your disinterest.
so ...really what do you think you and i can do about this. we could be in libya right now ? we go vote and you see what that does for us ?

Don't forget...it's not all gas...theirs a domino effect here.....plastics, chemicals, steel. If this chaos is sustained we are going to see many commodities going up in price a shrinking in spending and places all the way down to the local convenience stores closing. You would also think it would take a few days for the gas price to run up. It's going up before the news hits the street!!!!

Exactly! We're not paying for what the price of gas is; we're paying for what someone thinks the price of gas is going to be.

You are absolutely right, we can't do anything about it so we should just not try...

Personally I advocate on a local, municipal, and state level. I'm active in my field and I am on several boards in the Automotive industry to try and make things better. I am active politically as well as within my community to try and educate and enhance the quality of life for not just myself, but also those in my community.

I also do alot of volunteer work with the elderly who are really struggling right now.

What are you doing?

Try and think of people that may be struggling a bit more than you are. A man making a modest wage and having a 30-40 mile commute is going to get hit MUCH harder than a kid going to college with no significant expenses, no family to support, and no other obligations other than his own small part of the world.

Come back and say you don't care when you are 35, have a house, wife, 2 kids, and have an obligation to provide for them. Your eyes will open then.
Just because I'm in college doesn't mean i am 19 years old. I'm 30 years old and am going back to school after being a welder for about 12 years. I do have a house, wife, bills, no kids yet (but giving IVF a try this year) support my parents and my deadbeat brother and sister sometimes. I was doing great as a welder but i decided to change my career.

There are all types of peeps in this world...some save a little , some pace themselves, some are frugal, others could care less of the future.....we all settle in our own survival space and comfort of what we think is good for ourselves...it's all good until someone want what you worked hard for....tips the scales..."gas prices"...and we get our arses in a bunch! snort...
Funny how you can tell so much about me from one post. I am the king of being frugal with my money. We hardly ever go out (not really our thing,), I think eating out is a giant waste of money, every Sunday morning the wife and I clip coupons before we go grocery shopping and we always buy the cheaper store brands. The one and only thing we splurge on is my car hobby and her on her clothes/handbags stuff.
We actually save a lot of our money, hence why we can afford IVF and I can to go back to school for four years.

I'm not complaining about gas prices, but I'll pick to keep the Camaro and toys over getting married and have to worry bout keeping her happy and not wanting to leave me, or have to worry bout feeding children

Do the math FIRST, then think about it.

In case you need help - You might drive 12,000 mi/yr and gas will rise by some amount. maybe that is .50/gallon but who knows, you make the call. You can divide 12,000 miles by your approximate gas mileage (18 MPG?) and get your yearly gas consumption. In this case it is 666 Gallons per year. Multiply the gallons per year x the price per gallon increase you are seeing at the pump and THAT is what people are griping about. That comes to $333/year or about $.91 per day extra due to the increase. Does this amount surprize you? Is it less than you expected? How much do people spend at Starbucks in a week?

Just something to think about.

-Mark.

I am happy with anything between $3.00 -$4.00 a gallon!! Sorry, I will pay that...times are good in my area when oil and gas are high.
