AHGH!!! Where's that pulling-hair-out smilie! I need it, too!
![]() Here: I'm not quoting any sources, too tired. Just trust it as gospel. Okay? And I'll even throw it in caps! ![]() 2010 MODEL-YEAR CAMARO WILL BE RELEASED IN 2009, FIRST QUARTER. NO LATER, NO EARLIER (sorry )OCTOBER '08 IS THE START OF ACTUAL PRODUCTION rumors have it that in october they're only gonna be making about 30 of them. Then, each month ramping up production more and more. I would have to assume, that the first 30 are "test" cars. very slow production rate (obviously), to check that the assembly line is working properly. |

mixed with the breaks (which usually means they said more, but it was omitted) it doesnt show what question was being asked directly, just his response. someone could have asked 2 or three things and scott could have answered them in series. say someone asks 1.) will there be a vert camaro and will it be available when the coupe is introduced---answer, yes-- it will be a model year 2010---etc. im just saying that only building 30 in oct is genius and idotic at the same time. its genius in the fact that with only 30 on the road, everyone will want to see them and will reel those back in who got tired of waiting. its idiotic, cus there are enough buyers out there that they could sell them now. as far as the Jan 09 release, ill believe it when I see it. it honestly makes no sense to release it in early Jan of one year but call it the next years model . every new model for all manufacturers has been released in oct/sept, thats why they always have the "moving the lot" sales and what not to get rid of last years models to make room for the new ones. but apparently gm is only going to release 30 to the country next fall. but then again, gm has been building up the camaro for 5 years, so whats another 2? ill tell you what another 2 years is. 2 years is time enough for those out there who aren't hardcore gm/chevy/camaro to say "ya know what, im tired of waiting, im going to get a mustang, cus they are sooooooo cheap right now and there's a big aftermarket already out. I'd hate to get the new camaro and be put in the ground cus there's no big aftermarket for it since the mustang has been out the whole time that the camaro ha been in remission" im not pointing any fingers at anyone, nor am i talking about myself (ill drive my 94 till it dies before i buy a mustang). but i am showing how gm is faltering by waiting as long as they have and are. origionally they said it would be an 09 model because the 69 was the best year for the camaro, so it was kind-of a "40th" anniversary but not really. GM SHOULD HAVE released this car at the end of 06 as an 07 model, slap a 40th ann badge on the side of the ss and they could sell the damn things for 50k easy. but no they are waiting and postponing this. and according to some of you they are now waiting even longer to release this car. honestly im about tired of hearing speculation/rumors/etc. part of the main reason we have so many lurkers and spectators is the fact that most of the stuff on here is speculation. and people dont care about speculation. granted we've gone over every single possible version of the camaro and numerous other vehicles, but still i think a lot of those out there who aren't diehard fanatics will start to slink away from the 5th gen if it gets put out any farther. ok, my brain hurts. immma look at some of dragon's ps's

Even though the production camaro has been assured to look very similar, it will not be the same. There are safety, cost, and manufacturing issues that have to be addressed. Most of the design and engineering of the car has probably been finalized by now. But there is also the manufacturing side of things. There are thousands of individual components that need to be assembled into the final product. These all need to be made by someone in massive amounts. So all the factories are going to start tooling up this spring to make the camaro parts once all the design is complete. I want a camaro now too (can't afford it at the moment but I want one!) but the end of the wait is in sight. And in the comming months the details that we have been speculating about will become facts.

first off, the zeta platform has been under development since late 1999. (holden has been using it seriously since 2004 and gm has known about it since the commodore was released). now as for the wait time, they shouldn't have ever stopped making camaros. instead of slightly stretching the previous model, they should have done like they did in the past where you make a nearly different model each year. (IMO) and if we are following the rules of auto making, then why are they waiting till Jan to release it and why are they supposedly calling it a 2010 model being? the rules of auto making would say that you make the new model in Sept and release it in Oct. LIKE THEY (every major auto maker) ALWAYS HAVE. I just dont see them waiting till Jan to release the car. i believe strongly that, like every other car, it will be released in the fall of the year (2008) and like they (scott & bob) have said, the VERT will be available as a 2010 model

The G8 and Astra are being released in January. True they are being released as 08 models, and I still don't see how they can justify calling it a 2010 model if it is released in January 09, but there you have it. Toyota would release new models in early summer sometimes, like the 07 Camry came out in summer 2006. So the October launch for new models isn't set in stone. But really, they're just trying to get an extended model year in for the launch (boost sales numbers maybe?) and I really don't see that production date changing. It is less than a year away until they begin production anyway, and a little over a year until launch.

As for the vert being a 2010 model, they both will be. It has been stated as Fact that the coupe will be released in the 1st quarter of 2009 as a 2010 model. GM employees (not Scott, Bob, or John) have said that the vert will follow 6 months after the coupe, which puts it right around September of 2009. It will all work out. |

Also, the new Vibe will be released this January as a 2009, which is odd if the new Challenger is released in Feb as a 2008

Well...to throw a wrench in everything...
We have several different things going on here. We have what GM says...we have what GM said (with an oops as I like to see it), and we have our own ideas. GM stated as fact what Dragon said...coupe is 1st quarter of 09 w/ vert 6 months later. Then, the "oops" part as I like to call it. Peper is seen on video saying we would most likely see the coupe in dealerships at the end of 08. Yes...he said it. No...I have no idea where it is. I was also given a wink as to the possibility of the Camaro showing up in dealerships at the end of the 08 year. This was to happen if there were no catches, unforseen mishaps, etc, etc, etc. Then, we have what we want to believe. "It's going to be released at this time because of a movie..." It's going to be released 6 months early because yada, yada, yada... The simple truth of the matter is that the beginning of production is a year off...give or take a month or two. Is it going to be that big of a deal if it's released in Dec 08 vs Jan of 09??? Not for me. I won't be getting one for a while anyway. GM said beginning of 09...period. If it comes out a month early, cool. |
