I took the wife out to test drive a Challenger RT-8 yesterday afternoon. She currently has a Crossfire convertible, but lately she's hinted that maybe she's ready to trade.

We test drove a black, automatic version and I have to say I was happy with the ride and build quality. The interior on the car is perfect for a retro musclecar, IMHO. I know a lot of people think it is too simple and too much like the 300, but I think it fits the theme perfectly. It was hard for me judge the power/acceleration though, but it seem to have plenty of low-end grunt.

She still wants to drive a manual version, but I think there is a remote chance that we could have a GT500, a SS Camaro and a Challenger in the garage by the end of the year!

Dammet...i wish that Chrylser and GM would have completed the merger deal...then we would have two muscle cars in the market. And i do like Chrysler and always held challengers as one of the icons of the early 70's

I haven't yet been able to tell a Charger from a Challenger in person on the road.. lol I just point and say "oh look.. its another dodge, hope its tranny lasts more then 50k miles."

They look kinda similar but the front ends really tell the difference but i don't normally look at it.
Grats on the buy though!

Funny how it's the same POS tranny the Camaro is using

That's like saying the Gen5 Camaro looks like a Malibu. They Challenger and the Charger don't look even remotely similar. From the front, side or rear. Methinks you are just cutting on the Challenger because the OP bought one of them versus waiting on the Camaro.

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

We would have, but the dealer did not have a manual SRT on the lot. They are going to call us when the next manual comes in and we'll go back for round 2.

My wife appreciated the performance of the car, even though it was an automatic. I was not impressed, however, but that probably had less to do with the car than the fact that I am used to driving a 700+ rwhp as a daily driver. Not fair to compare that to a stock vehicle.

Well, I have yet to buy any import car and I'll be danged we were to ever buy one, that it would be a two-seat performance model.

Nah, in all honesty I couldn't tell if the guy at work had a challenger or a charger until i looked at the badging on it. They do look similar actually from the sides.

Actually I got a co-worker who has a dodge mini van (2002) tranny went bad twice before 60k miles, my parents Durango (1999) the tranny went out @ 48k plus it had major lower ball joint issues but that just crappy durango. My sisters dodge ram went out at like 38-39k.

Im sure by now though Dodge has no problems but around those years (1999-2003) they were horrible.

I got nothing against Challenger, I liked the old Challenger a lot. (and Chevelle and Camaro and Mustang... lol)

....great? good for you.

Being ignorant towards the quality of American cars is just as bad as being ignorant towards the quality and competitive performance of Import cars.

I have yet to drive an American car that drove as nice as the 370z. That doesnt mean i preffer imports or dont consider American cars, but rather im not ignorant.

If you really believe that, then you may want to see an eye doctor, and soon.

And this is the profile. The front and rear views are even more distinct.
