Yes the Black Beast needs a resurrection. I did receive some of the papers from PHS that you told me about and I am waiting on a few more. Once I get all of them I will can them and send them to you via e-mail. We are staring on it in 2 or 3 weeks, right after I get my truck home. I have talked with a mechanic and we wre going to take teh motor, tranny and rear end out and basically go through all of it to see what we are looking at. Hopefully not much since it only has 43000 miles, the only thing we know of now is the rear end " spider gears" were tore up and that is the reason he parked it all those years ago. For those who are wondering what Hylton and I are talking about. Hylton is very knowledgable about ALL Fbody cars and a great source of info. Well recently due to a death in my honey's family her Uncle passed away and left her ( us ) a 1973 L82 Vette and a 1972 Pontiac Firebird Formula 455 HO. The 455 HO has 4300 original miles, black with black interior. A few small dings but otherwise nice, some surface rust, rubber parts need replacing. So that will be my next project. My 56 Chevy Belair post Still awaits someday. And the Vette is pretty much mint.

![]() ![]() ![]() I often get asked how I do, why I do or what I do and Emma brought that memory back up to me so I will share with you now as this thread is more personal than just a build to me. I wear many hats. I am a certified homebuilder in the State of Alabama and have been for 20 years and currently am. I also have worked in a Federal Prison running an inmate work crew for the past 20 years, before that I was a Marine. I spent a little time in college and before that I worked, so working is pretty much all I have ever known from hauling pulp wood to saw milling to construction. 9 years ago I was enjoying a booming housing market, a great full time job with benefits, plenty of money but I worked all the time. I was single, never married, never had kids and had money to burn but no time to burn it, which wasn't a bad thing, so I saved. I occassionally helped people but pretty much worked. I started this truck 9 years ago this week, yes nine years ago. At that time My Aunt whom I dearly loved, my Mama, my Uncle and a few others who shaped my life were all alive, all these people I dearly and truly loved, well today they are all gone. 6 years ago ,the wonderful lady I was dating at the time, her sister fell ill with a wonderful disease called Cancer, well we all know how this ends. Luckily for me she had 2 children ages 4 and 7 staring me and Kelley right in the face. I had never been a Dad before but wham here I was instant Dad. I say luckily because it changed my life and the way I thought about things. So for the past 6 years like clock work, 1 by 1 each year, sometimes twice a year someone we truly and deeply loved passed on. I am 42 years old and decided when my Mama passed 3 years ago that all the money in the bank did me no good. I had put all of my efforts into work, being the good employee, doing a good job, worrying about that kind of thing. Now I worry about other things like little league, I worry about if my car is shiny enough. I worry about things that don't matter one little bit in the grand scheme of things. I do things for total strangers that I do not even know. Why? Because I can and it makes me feel good. I think we should all do that. As Mom use to say Do unto others. Or another wat to put it is . Look up Clay Walker's Song "Chain of Love" Kinda like paying it forward so to speak. This is the reason I call my Camaro Dr Jkel Dr for Drew the youngest , J is for Jordan the Oldest and Kel is for Kelley my Sweety. So they have a part of my car. The boys thought it would be cool if we had a Mr Hide to go along with Dr Jkel so that is why I call this truck Mr. Hide. Sorry to be so Long Just a little insight. John

I could find some room if you need help storing the Vette. Just kidding....no really, if you need to store it.....
![]() Quite a path you've been on. Loss sucks; indescribable pain, but you're building memories that I'm sure will pass on. And your paint is shiny, I've seen it. edit: here's a link with the specs if you haven't found it already! http://www.100megsfree4.com/corvette/1970/vet73.htm

Thanks Norm for the link. This Vette is Marlboro Red??? I think is the color. Of course I polished it up, great enamel paint, no clear, pads turned red. Should have seen the look on my face. LOL
A wise man once told me that it is the things you go through in life that makes you who you are. And that the Will of the Good Lord will never put you in a place that the Grace of God can not keep you. Someday's I polish my car as therapy when I do not know the answers to the questions of "Why did God take my Mommy away" when a 11 yr old asks. I just smile and say because He wanted me to teach you baseball and how to shine a car. They problem is when his comeback is well you are just learning to shine it yourself, gotta love kids. How true, how true. I think the one to be really commended is Kelley, how hard it must be to lose your best friend, your sister and see her kids grow up and know how much she would have appreciated seeing what they are doing. The oldest Jordan is being inducted into the National Beta Honor Society this Friday at School. His Mom would be proud as we are. He is only a freshman and is taking robotics and engineering in high school. Way smart kid. OBTW he is 6'2" 235

This may be your paint code 976 = Mille Miglia Red. That's the only red I see offered that year. I love the Corvette if you haven't noticed. I got black paint on my pads from my son's 91 Blazer with a Maaco paint job. I thought I screwed up bad! I'll quick jackin' your thread!
edit: just one more tidbit - the price on the coupe was a whopping $5921.00. No I didn't forget any zeros. Unbelievable.

No problems here, information is always appreciate in my threads. It has a few mechanical gremlins from sitting up so long but easy fixes after the truck is home.
Sad part is now that I am car poor I had to have more space, today they dug the footings for my new garage 42 x 30. Luckily I own the construction company so it won't cost me an arm and a leg, so for roughly 10 k I will have my garage, but I have to get out there and drive some nails and drag some concrete, but at least I will have a place for all this stuff.

I wish you were closer in Alabama! I've looked at garage after garage design and can't commit to any of them. I need to get something built. I think "man cave" progress is fitting for this thread as well. Don't you?

You always know how to put things in perspective. Honestly your a good person and I for one could not think of a more deserving guy. Wished I lived closer I would enjoy seeing what your going to build. I am also in need of a shop, hope to get something planned out this summer on that. By the way 70's Vette is in my top three all time, just love that body style.
