Not all of us have a lot of money to buy the V8 and would be more than satisfied with a V6. Heck, I'm not even getting one for a while and i'll be excited for everyone else with their cars regardless of the engine. Most people buying Camaros(who will be from outside of this forum) mostly care about the looks of the car so they would go for a V6 without much thought of a V8 IMO. For the average joe, 300hp may be too much for them and and cant see 400+ hp as a good choice for a DD and not really too useable to its full potential on the streets.

I am going to be getting a V8 one day but I won't disrespect others for their desire of this car with a smaller engine. Some simply dont need or desire a high hp car. Why do so many people buy mustangs? for a NAME and a LOOK, most are V6's. Do you ask everyone who has a mustang why they didnt get a GT500?

I don't want to be like everyone else and have a V8 muscle car, (I shouldn't say I don't want one because I have one) I want a V6 underdog that will eventually hold it's own against similar cars like a Nissan Z or EVO. It's also somewhat of the sleeper mentality, That is why I'm building up a FWD cavalier, that when done will be able to run 13's, how often do you see that? To me its just more fun.
Well, now you sound like all the GTO guys defending their choice of car with "I wanted to be different". The fact is, you're buying a mass produced car (an extremely anticipated one at that), so if you think your not going to see hundreds of thousands of cars just like yours on the streets in the next couple of years, you in for a rude awakening. I applaude your desire to build something original on your own however, as that is in the real spirit of hot rodding. Keep it up.

Isn't there some rule about personal attacks on this board? Seems like the mods have been hammering it home for awhile now. I guess you didn't get the bulletin.

What are you talking about? I never said a V6 had to be n/a, I said I don't understand why so many folks these days get excited about a n/a V6 pony/muscle car. Ever thought about pursuing a career in politics? The way you can spin what someone says, you should.

You know what? You're right. I didn't mean it as a personal attack in any way so I'm sorry. Looking at it again it does sound harsh.
Maybe I was looking for a different word with a less derogatory connotation.
Maybe unenlightened works better. The point I wante to make is that the V6 in the Camaro's application is a very good motor. And it has shown to be responsive to performance modifications. I'm trying to say that it's not out of the question to be excited about this engine.

And again, I mean no disrespect

The torque numbers those 70s cars put out were greater than the current V6 number is for many of the muscles cars of the era. However the V6 has an impressive little engine in there and the only thing holding it back is the weight of the Camaro which is hefty even for the V8 model..Hopefully the V6 gets 0-60 at 5.9...

My wife used to slalom race our Vettes. Back then with a stick shift net HP WAS 210 HP out of a L82 or 250 out of a 66 L79 . 304 is just fine now and the brakes are a lot better.

I would have stepped in here sooner and taken care of some things, but looks like ya'll are getting by just fine. Let's continue to keep it civil, please.

All we are talking about here is a matter of opinion. No side is right. There is nothing wrong with either opinion...and that really is the end of it. We are all entitled to our opinions and forcing opinions on others is what causes arguments. I'm not saying anyone here is trying to do that purposefully, but let's respect each other.

The V8 is the only way to go for me. I have already done the V6 with the 4th Gens. There was nothing wrong with it. It was a great, quick, and nimble car. The new V6 comes out of the caddy CTS...and is one hell of an engine....nothing to scoff at. It isn't the V8, but again, is a great engine. There's a lot of people...

There's a lot of people.....who can NOT afford the V8, don't want to pay the gas for the V8, don't want to pay the insurance for the V8, and other reasons...

With the V6, they are getting something great...and are also getting the return of their beloved Camaro. I can easily understand why people are excited about the V6!

I owned a 04 SVT Foucs once but it was no muscle car even though SVT built it.Just because it has SVT,GT,SS ,RS ECT.Don't make it a muscle car it's for V-8's only.V-6 and 4 bangers are like a one legged man going to a butt kicking contest. Now thats funny i don't care who you are.

Personally, the Camaro will be a daily driver, so V-6 with 300 hp will work for me. If I get the itch for the power of a V-8 I can get the '69 Chevelle out of the garage.

My 2cents- I'm tired of the word 'muscle car'. It's overused and used to decribe too many vehicles. The Camaro falls somewhere between a GT and a sports type car. Either label is more meaningful then 'muscle car' because if there's one thing muscle cars were known for- it's straight line performance- straight through the bend in the road. Hell, I'm not even sure pony car's were considered muscle cars in their time.

I'm not a huge BMW fan, but it's hard to argue that they aren't the 'standard for comparison' right now in the world. You can get a 3.5 (pretty damn quick) or a 2.8 (reasonably quick for daily use) in the 3 and 5 series. Then there's the M series. Nobody says 'if you don't get the M or 3.5, then you just kissed your sister.'

Although Chevy is giving a head-nod to the 60's with their styling, everything else about this car convinces me they are FAR more concerned about their current competition then they are about what happened 40 years ago. The term 'muscle car' is strictly marketing in my opinion right now.
