truthfully there have always been remakes. they were remaking movies in the 50s, 60s and 70s. but yes, it is weird to see stuff in our lifetime remade.
you are young get use to it.

I'm not sure whats worse, a bad remake of a good movie or an unnecessary sequel (or prequel) to a completed movie/series

What is up with Hollywood today? Why do we suddenly have this need to remake classics, like The Karate Kid? What is wrong with a simple trilogy being left alone, like Indiana Jones? There's a disappointing lack of creativity these days.
It's because they have done it all and there is nothing left to do.

Didn't they already make Top Gun II? Maverick grew his hair, traded his rice-rocket for a Harley, and his F-14 for a Lumina.

Lifetime Gross $2,871,844,825... Average Tom Cruise film makes $95,728,161. Somebody is watching.

I think Cruise is under-rated. I find it interesting the number of Oscar nominations and wins for Cruise movies, yet he's never received one, though he received a couple of nominations. I'm not saying most of his performances deserved an Oscar, but neither is any actor's average performance an Oscar winner.

2004 Collateral got 2 Nominations, none for Cruise
2003 The Last Samurai got 4 noms, none for Cruise
1999 Magnolia got 3 noms, 1 for Cruise as supporting actor
1996 Jerry Maguire got 6 noms, 1 for Cruise as best actor
1993 The Firm got 2 noms, none for Cruise
1992 A Few Good Men got 4 nominations, none for Cruise
1989 Born on the 4th of July got 7 noms, 1 for Cruise as best actor
1988 Rainman got 8 noms, none for Cruise
1986 The Color of Money got 4 noms, none for Cruise

Other Oscar nominations went to these Cruise films, but were only in technical areas (sound, makeup, effects, etc) Minority report(1), War of the Worlds(3), tropic Thunder(1), Vanilla Sky(1), Interview w/ Vampire(2), Days of Thunder(1), Legend(1), Top Gun(4)

That's 54 Oscar nominations for Cruise's films total!

I find Rainman to be the most interesting Oscar snub considering this WON for best picture, best director, best actor and best screenplay, but Cruise wasn't even nominated.

Not a good sequel when we now know Charlie likes bush. Makes for a lame storyline.

Lets see....

Maverick would have been in the Navy for 30 years now....

Iceman has rendered to retirement and now owns a hubcap shop in Tehachapi and sells classic car insurance.

Charlie has come out of the closet and since busted Mavericks ego sending hm into a deep depression.

Goose actually wasn't killed...It was a ploy to serve the Soviets "misinformation" as that with Goose and Maverick, together, the Soviets would NOT have stood a chance in the final sorte.

Jester is actally Maverick AND Gooses father. Viper embellished the Iriskany/Vietnam incident to bolster Mavericks ego for losing BOTH Charlie and Goose in the same damn week.

Charlie was informed by Iceman that the singing of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" wasn't actually to get into CHarlie's pants, rather Mavericks ploy for a threesome with Charlies date, Perry.

Maverick couldn't "get back in the saddle" after Gooses death because he felt Sundown was a prima donna, who wore fungus covered flip flop shower shoes and used powdered soap...and couldn't be trusted.

Cougar just pussied out at the beginning of the movie because well, he was a *****. And Top Gun just wouldn't be the same with Cougar getting killed because Goose had that geeky I am a tool persona. Could you see Cougar singing "Great Balls Of Fire"?

Maverick really wanted to "hit that" referring to Vipers daughter while having his heart to heart with his future....Then realized she was his cousin or something...

Hollywood and Wolfman were actually gay lovers...So Ang Lee and Brokeback Mountain is NOT actually the first vessel of such topic.

And all this "tower buzzing" and spills of liquids prior to oral consumption is too melodramatic...

I dont count myself as a Cruise fan particularly, but I admit he was absolutely awesome as Vincent in Collateral. One of my favorite movie moments

It would be interesting to see a Top Gun 2 for the fact maybe he would actually play someone in his age bracket. He needs to move on from playing younger slick action heroes. Id love to see him in more villan roles like John Travolta has done.
