You don't need a detector...don't you just flash your badge, do the secret policeman handshake and get a free pass????

Seriously...rumor has it that if you wave to a cop as you pass, they figure you are another cop and don't come after you. Any truth to this, or did I just get lucky?

Sorry...forgot to reply. No, it won't help out. I don't expect to get out of any tickets, but have twice been let go since I've been on....and I didn't cite either officer I stopped.

Questions

I understand how detecting radars work but how do they detect lasers too? From what i understand cops are going towards lasers instead of radar because of its accuracy. So how do laser detectors work? Ive been told by people (who probably havnt had any experience) that the laser detecters go off when you have no time and you're right in front of him.

Laser is more difficult than radar but is more accurate. W/ Laser, you have to aim and shoot the beam at somethign relective (usually the LP).

O ok that makes sense
For detecting laser guns, is it also more difficult to detect?

Think of it this way, Radar shoots out like light from a candle or flashlight. Lasers come out like . . . lasers. A radar gun will essentially hit your whole car so if you have a detector it should pick it up. Lasers will only hit a very small area, so I doubt that it is possible to detect them especially if they are aimed at license plates while detectors are inside the car. By the same token, I can't see how a laser jammer would even work. Could someone who knows more about them explain it?

I was told, and I think, the detector picks up the faint laser emissions. Sort of like radioactivity - but not really. They're not very reliable (the laser detectors), so I've heard.
