This one is from Franklin Roosevelt.

New quote: "Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee."

Okay, time's up. It was said by John Donne in his famous poem of the same title.

New quote: "Do you want to buy a vowel?"

George H. W. Bush.

OK, Ivas, time for your thinking cap!
"When you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

Aw, c'mon, that's too easy. It was said by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle through his fictional character, Sherlock Holmes.

New quote: "Is everybody happy?" Hint: it was routinely said by a big band leader of the 1930's. Furthermore, it was said in a falsetto voice.

Dang! That was too easy for ya!

Yours was Barney the purple dinosaur! No, wait, you said 1930's....
That would be Ted Lewis (he played the clarinet as well as leading the band....)

"I always turn to the sports pages first, which records people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures."

Wow, very impressive; it was indeed Ted Lewis. Doesn't he seem laughably kitch to the modern audience?

I'm gonna' hafta' think on your quote.

Hmm, only Americans consult newspapers in that manner, so it couldn't be Gandhi or Mandela. It's too calm to be H. Rapp Brown, Stokely Carmichael, or Malcolm X. This leaves Martin Luther King Jr. Right?

Okay, so he listened to these cats, therefore he must be an English speaker, good. Since some of these fellahs did not come into the public eye until after 1964; it couldn't be JFK, he was dead by then. I say, lo and behold, it was LBJ, yes?
