Wow is all I can say!

It looks like that ~3500lbs curb weight REALLY gives it an advantage! Almost 100 feet for 60-0 stopping distance and a .95 on the skid pad are pretty impressive.

Maybe GM should offer a sort of track package with some stiffer springs, sway bars, lighter wheels and even bigger (ZO6 like, without the individual pads) brakes maybe with some lightweight mods ...

I knew ford had something they were going to bring to counter the camaro, didnt think theyd throw it out there this soon tho. oh, well, looks like the pony wars are really on now.

What too bad about it? They know their market and the car is tailored to that demographic. While it may be true for a few, I don't think the "ride quality" ratings are going to be significant factor in whether or not someone chooses between the Camaro SS and the Mustang GT. It might, however, cause a lot of women who currently drive Mustangs to swing over to the Camaro.
I love it. lol

Based on the data we currently have available regarding the Camaro SS, the 2009 Mustang GT and the 2010 Mustang GT, it is quite easy to see that the Mustang has, indeed, narrowed the gap between the two cars. I never said it had closed the gap.
As for the percentage of people who would consider ride quality as a major factor in choosing between the Camaro and the Mustang, I would say that it is very small. Roughly the same percentage of buyers who really care if a vehice has an IRS or a SRA, as long as the prospective owner enjoys the overall feel of the car, IMHO.

Here is what a recent poll by Consumer Report's showed as the factors that matter most in their car buying decision, listed in order from most important to least important:

1 - Reliability / Dependability
2 – Exterior Styling
3 - Price / Cost to Buy
4 - Interior Comfort
5 - Value for the Money
6 - Fun to Drive
7 - Manufacturer’s Reputation
8 - Quality of Workmanship
9 - Engine Performance
10 - Road-holding / Handling
11 - Fuel Economy
12 - Storage & Cargo Capacity
13 - Ride Quality on Highway
14 - Durability / Long Lasting
15 - Safety Features
16 - Future Trade-In / Resale
17 - Length of Warranty
18 - Rebate / Incentive
19 - Discount / Value Package
20 - Environmentally Friendly Vehicle

really.

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

You are right, I should have said "narrowed" the gap instead of "closed" in my original statement and it would have gotten my point across better, for sure.

Picking nits, aren't we? I would say "drag" falls under the area of, "9-engine performance", if I had to pick one. But, please, let's allow others to decide whether or not they would agree with my assumption.

Engine performance has NOTHING to do with drag for 99% of the people who own a vehicle. It may attract someone to a car, but its such a small % of people that use the car for drag that its pointless.

thus it would be hard to conclude that '9' really means drag in the first place, and if it really would have been '9' if people knew it was at the cost of their ride quality.

That list is pointless for the given topic

I misunderstood the point you were trying to make. I thought when you said "drag" you meant drag racing[performance], that is why I said number nine.

As for the poll, it simply represents what the average car buyer sees as the important factors. The fact of the matter is, the average car buyer is unlikely to opt for the SS or the GT in any case. That's why the base models of both cars far outsell the higher performance versions. So let's not kid ourselves and try to act like we are both talking about those buyers. We're talking about the performence enthusiasts who will be looking to get behind the wheel of a SS or a GT and would not even consider the base model of either car.

oh you missunderstood, the results of that list are not dependant upon a sacrifice. Meaning when people checked 'Performance' they werent checking 'i want performance at the price of ride quality'

Besides, looks to me like interior comfort (ride Quallity) would be number 4.

I don't know what people meant when they took the poll, obviously I did not administer it nor was I in any way involved with it, other than to post the data in this thread. One would infer that, by choosing performance ahead of ride quality in order of importance, the respondents would accept more performance and the expense of less ride quality.

I can't speak for anyone else on this board, but I know I would, and I have. Going to a coilover setup on my GT500 versus the original suspension it came with has certainly improved it's handling at the expense of ride quality, but not to the degree that it bothers me to daily drive the car.

Maybe, but I tend to think that would be more of the seat composition, positioning, access to controls, etc. than ride quality, otherwise, why would ride quality have a separate category?

well that's true, but they didn't choose performance over ride quality.

If you read it, the only ride quality that is explicitly mentioned is highway ride quality, something that is not everyday and not an immediate concern. Thus everyday ride quality must fall into a different category. The only one that fits is the interior comfort, which falls at number 4. Well ahead of performance.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on the interpretation of the poll. In fact, I think I will post up a poll to see how folks on this site would answer.

i think you should save your time, you and i both know this crowd would be biased towards performance, seeing as we are on an Enthusiast site.
