"Fubsy"
It means "beware"; your definition is fine and good nevertheless.

Now as to your word, hmm, you got me. Is it slang? It kinda' makes me think it originates in the 19th Century or earlier 20th Century.

Ooh, is it World War Two soldier slang like "fubar" (****ed up beyond all repair)?

No it is not slang. It originates 17th century English. The words definition is what the word sounds like, if that makes sense. Such as "knife" has a sharp connotation to it. Q

Man o' man, you're telling me that your word is recognizable from its onomatopoeic qualities. Bro' you have sensibilities that are far deeper than mine own (no spelling error, it IS acceptable to accord the possessive 'my' using the 'n' sound thusly, as in the assertion, "upon mine honor") when you extract or even detect a sound vis ā vis meaning connection of "knife" and sharpness, wow!

"Fubsy" has a lathering sense, kinda... That may be misdirected from "sudsy".
Is it a call made by shepherds or swineherds gathering their animals for a wash up? A 'dip', I believe, in a good soapy basin.

It means to be like a halo that encircles, like aurora. But could also have to do with the sense of hearing, like auditorium. And, yet thirdly it might be something golden because in the Latin aureus (spelling?) means the metal gold, like 'Au' on the Periodic Table of the Elements. I think... This oughta' cover all the bases, eh?

New word: "Meager"

At first glance, your selection seems to imply a study (from the Greek 'ology') of open warfare (and from the French 'bataille' or battle in English).

Problem is that proper words are not 'built' from such disparate sources. It looks like something a kid would make up.

So with that said, it's prolly something else. I'll retain the 'ology' suffix though.

The 'bat' part can't be the flying kind because the classical sources for that kinda' thing must be something along the lines of 'chiro'.

How 'bout from 'battus' meaning a club to strike with.

Could it be the study of weapons? Some connection to hand-held hitting may be involved. Am I any where near the right track?

Nothing to do with weapons. Don't think of it in the "bat" sense. Has to do with talking/writing.

What's on the right track? "Whopper" is (to me) a big fish. As in an exaggerated story of one that got away. Like this term of vocabulary is rapidly becoming!

So to recapitulate: it has to do with talking/writing and with "hmm and hmm".

"Hmm and hmm" are possibly the sounds of droning, as do insects make while they annoy us. Maybe an inference of tedium in a monologue.

Could your word mean the study of lackluster phrases?
