No, her new quote was not another Pattonism ... it was Douglas MacArthur.

New Quote: "A ship is always referred to as "she" because it costs so much to keep one in paint and powder"

Ooh, now this one has gotta' be from a naval officer from his familiarity with topic of "ships"; an officer would probably feel this kind of ease whereas a simple sailor might not feel quite as fraternal about his ship. The quote mentions paint and powder which were part a a gal's "warpaint" during the first half of the 20th Century, or earlier. Since then, fewer women refer to their make-up in terms of paint.

I'd venture that the speaker was possibly: Fleet Admiral Chester Nimits, or First Sea Lord Winston Churchill, or Admiral Lord Nelson, or Admiral Jellicoe. AM I ON THE RIGHT TRACK?

Yes sir, you are most definitely on the right track. And a hint to narrow it down ... the quote is from the one named above that is mis-spelled.

Aha, 'twas good ol' Chester Nimitz. I misspelled the Lord Admiral's name too, I think. How many "l"s in Jellicoe?

Here's your new pick: "If I were not *********, I would be Diogenes."

Obviously, since the speaker mentions his own name in his quote, I had to replace the letters with asterisks; they're the correct number for the missing letters too. Perhaps that renders this quote too easy, hmm.

Well, well, this one proved too tough or should I say esoteric. The answer is Alexander, of Alexander the Great. The conquerer and the philosopher (remember the one who wouldn't wear clothes, slept in a barrel, et cetera) met in the streets of Athens. Diogenes was sitting on the paving; Alexander blocked the sunshine striking Diogenes. The old man asked Alexander to "Move out of my light." The utter nerve to speak that way impressed Alexander thus his reply.

New quote: "Friends, Romans, countrymen lend me your ears."

Nah, try much earlier. It was said by a Roman general at Caesar's funeral.

Okay, I'll tell ya'. It was said by Marc Anthony in his build up to replace the dead Caesar as supreme leader of Rome.

Replacement quote: ""You sir, are no Jack Kennedy."

You have the quote wrong. It's "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy." Lloyd Benson in the 1988 VP debate.

I prefer Reagan's version of the quote.

Next quote: "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

This one I know; it was said by Abraham Lincoln. Your correction of my last quote is much appreciated. When I first wrote it something felt missing, but I couldn't place it.

New quote: "I shall return."

Gen. Douglas MacArthur, after arrival in Australia, on withdrawal from The Philippines. Took a few years before it happened.

New Quote: "One good thing about the bad movies is that people don't remember them. Nobody ever comes up to me and says, 'I hated you in I Walk The Line!'."

GnyaTek, we may need a hint here. I, for one, have NO idea who might have said your quote. Was it said by a movie director?

No, not a director, but an actor. The link to the previous quote is that this actor has played Gen. Douglas MacArthur, as well as having starred in the movie mentioned in the quote.

Not sure if that will be enough of a hint or not lol. If not, I will add some others.

The movie "Inchon" was about MacArthur in Korea. The actor portraying the general was the great British thespian, Lord Lawrence Olivier. Is this the quotee to whom you refer?
