Once we get it to the paint shop and they disassemble it for paint then we can complete that install....Once it has been moved we will measure for teh driveshaft and have it cut down by a " Draftshaft" Shop.

It is the driveshaft shop who builds driveshafts for Matts Boss's race cars. I am just leaving it all up to him.
Ah okay. I was going to say, I have a plasma cutter and the best of intentions

WELLLLLLLLLL.........NO.

Just so happened that Matt got sick and has been for about 3 weeks...he had to stay out of the heat for a couple of weeks...but he is back on his feet now.

We installed the tune over the weekend and it fired right up and idled great....problem is the idle air control sounds like a jet fighter sucking air and that has to be tuned out or down...Problem is when you change one thing you have to change a lot of other things...I have no clue

We did let it run for a few minutes to check for leaks and things like that nad so far everything is good to go.

This thing move A LOT of air and if you turn the IAC down to much it has trouble cranking so we have to find a happy medium on that so that the AF ratios are good. We are gonna try it again tonight with the update to the update.

After we get the idle tune just like we want then we can drive it. It will run now and drive but not optimally...oooh big word.

It did sounds good though, especially to hear it run.

Matt did bring me a surprise.........A 3 1/2" Chevy Bowtie set of exhaust tips....gonna look oh so good.

Speaking of which.......Dont know if you remember but the rear wheels set farther back and were not centered in the wheel well.....So I ordered a new crossmember from CPP and it came in. This will allow us to move the rear end forward or backwards to any place we like it...but this crossmember also has holes in the center of it as to allow the exhaust a smooth path to the rear. It allows for better flow and makes it look a whole lot better. We are gonna install it after we get it running right. 10 holes and we are done with that.....This should have been done along time ago.

FINALLY

We finally have the idle tune pretty much dead on. Still have to work on the IAC a little bit. A/F ratio is not perfect but running at 14.4 so I can't complain.

We tested the idle at several different times, cranks right up and no hesitation. We were going to get the rest of the tune hooked up BUT the bottom radiator hose blew off didn't tighten the clamps up tight enough. Since the water temp was 189* we decided to wait till today to get that corrected.

In the mean time we worked on the seat mounts...I decided to change the seats. The ones they had used were SUPPOSED to be new but in all reality looked like junk yard seats so I bought some seats from Summitt Racing....I will have them modified when I do the interior.....gonna make them shorter so they are below the back window. We are going to fabricate some 4" brackets to raise the seat up enough.

Due to the way they steering column was installed we decided to change it as well. We are changing the transmission linkage to a cable linkage instead of a rod linkage. We are also going to sink the steering column 2" into the dash to give more room, couple that with a short steering wheel adapter it should give me 4" farther away from the seat than it is now.

I wanted to drive it but Matt has refused until the air cleaner arrives...I ordered it yesterday and it should be here in a couple of days...no air cleaner means it doesn't move according to Matt:(

We have about an hours worth of wiring left and a couple of other little things to get it running so we can test it.

I finally got the front bumper installed as good as I could get it.....I guess they were not as aware of gaps in 1963.....the outside of the bumper is the same difference on both sides but the inside gap is a little different one each side and the only thing I can think of it the bumper....I cut a cardboard template of one side and then tried to math the bumper on the other side and it didn't match so that may be something I just have to live with...It is the original bumper so I guess that is to be expected.

I was planning on re-chroming the bumper but the cost is way too much...it is cheaper to buy a new bumper...like 700.00 cheaper...Chrome is EXSPENSIVE.

Since we fixed the radiator and heater lines we also tested the heater and it works great....We will be charging the AC before we drive it...Will have to pull a vacuum to make sure it is clean and doesn't leak, then fill it with freon....Luckily Matt has all those tools and is Freon Certified.

GETTING CLOSER

More and more...sometimes I think the more I do the further I get behind...LOL

Worked on Ole Hyde this past weekend and got some thing accomplished but seems I have more to do.

The new air cleaner came in Friday and of course it does not fit :( and will have to be modified so it can clear the throttle linkage bracket. Matt has a Mill at work and it going to do that today if he gets the new tooling in.

He tried to finish up the seat brackets but the cutting bits broke and no one was open this weekend to get more:(

So we did some other things while we were waiting. I relocated the gas pedal. It was too far to the left and didn't give you hardly any room. We removed it and moved it about 3" to the right. Funny thing is we had to unhook the throttle cable linkage. The linkage is held in by a c-lip retaining ring...Guess what? It didn't have one so the pin could have easily vibrated out
Easy fix.

We did get the Idle Air control adjusted so it doesn't sound like a 747. Checked all the hoses made sure they were tight. Changed the oil, topped off the radiator.

I am still waiting on the transmission cable linkage from Summit, plus the other steering column items I needed so hopefully in a day or so it will be here.

Just some thoughts on ole Hyde.

It is amazing to me how much has to be modified especially when you are buying bolt on items...I guess not to much is truly bolt on especially on this thing.....

We still need to work on the cold start up in the tune but that isn't too bad.

Not really a whole bunch left before we can truly test drive it....just really waiting on parts.

Got a bit more done last night...just seems like it is slow going but at least the things I am doing now are finishing things which is a good thing.

Got the throttle linkage adjusted and the c-clip added to the linkage.

Drilled the other two holes for the transmission crossmember and got it bolted down. Drilling holes in a frame from 1963 is a tough job especially laying on your back...some tough stuff.

Got the rest of the wiring under the truck tied up and placed against the frame..

Got the air cleaner installed....had to do some modifying to it to get it to fit so the throttle linkage would clear. Also got the Air Temperature Sensor installed in the air cleaner. Still have to get the linkage for the butterflies installed...of course it needs modifying...

We punted on the seat brackets...just didn't seem to work like we wanted. We ended up making another bracket...more of a box version that runs the length of the seats...so will have to make three more tonight.

Got an e-mail from Summit that the parts I ordered, transmission linkage, short steering wheel adapter and a couple of other things were shipping from the manufacturor and they are currently on back order....Man I just love it when they tell you parts are in stock and should be there in 2 days only to find out that it will be about 2 weeks.

But at least day by day we are making progress ans THAT is a GOOD thing.
