I got a ticket in Florida. I took an online test, which took about 4 hours. When you pass that you get a certificate and they eliminate the points. I still paid $163, but no points.

how many points did you take off?

i know we have 2 classes here in NJ...1 takes off 2 points and the other test takes off 3 points...

im probably just going to end up taking the ticket..pay the fines...and take the class the kill the points

Massachusetts has reciprocity with New York. A ticket there will raise your insurance points here. You would need to go back to the jurisdiction to fight it. My rule of thumb that has been working for me in many miles of travelling is to do what the locals do. They are more aware of what you can get away with. I will also try to get behind a fast driver in a BMW. The first car will get picked off. On my way to Sturgis on my Harley last year, I was behind a white Beemer that was 25 over the limit. The Ohio State Trooper passed me to bag the BMW automabile. I then slowed down until another driver of an "ultimate driving machine" got in front of me, then I cranked it back up to the ninety that we were going before the cop got the BMW.
Years back, I got bagged in both New York and Ohio. In both states, the troopers took my papers and made me follow them to a justice of the peace where I was promptly found guilty and fined on the spot.

so in order for me not to get the points (maybe and hopefully), i would need to actually show up in court? with the ticket i got...

i read that in NJ if you get a out-of-state ticket it is only 2 points no matter what ticket you get...if thats the case then i will most likely take a course to knock off those 2 points...dont really want to drive 2 1/2 hours to the court at 9am..

Most all of the above is misguided....... I Know !!.
I live in Ct and got a 91 in a 65 by a NY State trooper on an Interstate. Mail in the ticket "NOT GUILTY". What you first go to is a PRE TRIAL hearing.
I don't know about NJ but it is 6 points in NY & Ct and lots of $$ and probably big time ins increase. I went to my PRE TRIAL hearing (hour and a half each way) and for me it was well worth it. In every case I saw the penalty and the fine was reduced. They want to keep the process moving and out of the ACTUAL COURT. No one I saw there had an atty.
My advise, make the trip. Get there early, get a haircut, wear a suit, be polite, and try to have some kind of an explaination why you were going so fast.
In my case my ticket was reduced to a seatbelt violation. No points and I think about 25% of the speeding offense $$.
Remember, it's all about the money and keeping their actual court docket clear. Plead GUILTY and you loose no matter what.
Good luck and if your anything like me your driving slower already.

Did you mail it in ?- If so I think your goose is cooked. If not cross it out and plead NOT GIILTY. Do what you want and I'm no atty but I almost got off scott free except for a few dollars. As I walked in I was offered a speed reduction of 81 instead of 91 and all I did was tell them my name. Again- They want some money and to keep the process moving.

Call them up and ask for a duplicate- Say it went throught the wash or your dog ate it (lol)......Or possably you can then just plead not guilty over the phone. Remember, these are just people doing their job. I was scared when I went to court but they couldn't have been nicer. I know the whole ordeal is a real pain in the butt but pleading guilty is no way to go unless you don't care about the points, insurance or money.
It sounds to me that this is going to be a long day for you but in the end you will think it was well worth it. It was for me.
Again, good luck.

The reason you always plead not guilty on anything is so you can negotiate with the prosecutor before hand. [ya don't need a lawyer to do that] And thats the only way to cut a deal. You say like Ill pay the fine but no court cost or points. And they usually go for it unless you got a record of tickets. As it will cost them 10 times as much to have a jury trial. Or you can just do that to stick it back to them, as it cost a min of about $1500 to set one up.

Cause your never gonna pay more on the ticket and if you wish you can waste their time n money as payback.

This is true. When they offered me 81 instead of 91 immediately I refused and said it wasn't me speeding- Many cars in a pack, one SUV just passed me and I think it was him speeding, no tickets in 10 years, etc, etc. I said I wanted to talk to the judge and I did. She was very nice and reduced my fine as I explained above. Every person that I saw there got a reduced fine.
A couple of young girls, 16-17 I think, each got a reduced fine if they later mailed in a 500 word essay explaining the dangers of speeding.
Again, I think the court wants your money and to move onto the next case. Time is money.

ok i just talked to my brothers friend who is a NJ trooper yesterday....you said i will get 2 points on my license and whatever NY state fines for the ticket i have gotten. he also said that sometimes the points dont make it on your license and get lost somewhere...i asked him if it is worth going up there and fighting it...he said your better off just paying the fine and taking the 2 points...he also said that if i do go up to the court then i will need a lawyer which we all know is more money. he also mention that there is no guarntee that the lawyer will get rid of your points...he said they will 'make you a deal' and end up just reducing the speed number but you will remain with the points. being that i have no points on my license now he said you shouldnt see too much increase in my insurance rate and such. so im going to get in contact with the court and actually see how much the fine costs and etc...

A buddy of mine used to be a state trooper in WV. His Captain was going from Parkersburg to Wheeling on I-77 in Ohio in a marked police car with rollers and everything. He got pulled over by an Ohio state trooper. He was actually ticketed for speeding even after playing the obvious trump cards about being on the job in a marked police car. The Ohio officer's response? "Here's your ticket. Tell it to the judge!"

Now that's hardcore!
